Job Summary:

The Department of Accounting at Eastern Washington University’s College of Business invites applications to fill one tenure track faculty position to start Fall Quarter 2021. The selected candidate will be appointed as a tenure-track Assistant Professor.

Eastern is a regional, comprehensive institution where excellent teaching must be supplemented with an appropriate research program. The primary teaching area for this position will be accounting in the undergraduate and graduate programs. An ongoing research program and committee service to the university, college, and department is required for tenure track appointments. Advising students is also required by this position.

Faculty offices may be in the Catalyst building, adjacent to downtown Spokane in the University District, or on the Cheney campus, but all faculty are expected to be available to teach at both locations. Additionally, the candidate selected for this position will be expected to teach online academic courses to a diverse college student body; experience with online teaching is preferred.

The required start date for this position is 09/16/2021. To be considered eligible for appointment into the position, applicants must be available and able to start in the position no later than 09/16/2021.

This position, during the course of university employment will be involved in the receipt of, or accountability for, university funds or other items of value; as well as the unsupervised access with the developmentally disabled, vulnerable adults or children under the age of 16. Required Qualifications:

  • PhD or DBA in Accounting or closely related field from an AACSB Accredited University; ABD candidates close to degree completion will be considered, but PhD must be completed before September 1, 2021 to be appointed into this tenure track position
  • A minimum of three years’ experience in a professional (not academic) accounting position with a firm required to follow generally accepted accounting practices and procedures (GAAP) as prescribed by the US Accounting Principles Board and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. Public accounting experience strongly preferred.
  • Ability and potential of being able to publish a sustained stream of blind peer-review journal articles
  • Possess an active American Certified Public Accounting (CPA) license (international certification /licensure is not considered qualifying)
  • Ability to teach financial and managerial accounting
  • Demonstrated ability to apply a culturally responsive and flexible approach that is supportive to the diverse needs, including universal accessibility, of our students, faculty, staff, and the public.

Schedule will vary from quarter to quarter to fulfill position’s responsibilities, which includes teaching day, night, and online classes. Additionally, appointments as Assistant Professor typically include up to 28 credits of teaching across the academic year (mid-September through mid-June) however, depending on AACSB qualification status and departmental needs, teaching load might be up to 36 credits. Workload also includes work effort devoted to research and service.

Responsibility / Duty:

A Faculty Activity Plan will be developed by the end of the first quarter of the selected candidate’s appointment, and will consist of a combination of teaching, research, service and/or release time to perform administrative duties, as negotiated and as needed to meet the business needs of the department.

Teaching: Teaching workload for Assistant Professors typically include up to 28 credits of teaching across the academic year (mid-September through mid-June) however, teaching load might be up to 36 credits, subject to department needs and AACSB qualification status.

Teaching includes the following additional responsibilities as defined in the faculty CBA:

  • Meet all scheduled classes
  • Plan, organize and inform students of course content, texts, readings, assignments, attendance expectations and methods of evaluation including grading scales
  • Schedule and attend office hours
  • Turn in grades according to established deadlines

Additionally, all faculty are expected to engage in effective teaching and assessment of student learning.
