The Center for the Transformation of Schools (CTS) at UCLA's School of Education and Information Studies (SE&IS) serves as a thought partner and critical source of support for schools, districts and county offices of education across the country in fulfilling their mission of ensuring that all children receive the education they deserve. CTS' research and tools help school systems, government leaders, and community members reimagine the ways in which they can raise academic achievement for low-income students of color and historically marginalized student groups. Our scholarship focuses on the strengths, interests and cultural resources of young people and families, using education as a means for dismantling structural and systemic racism. The Director of Business Administration (DBA) will be supporting a research center that deeply values education justice and social justice as core to its work.
The DBA is responsible for the administrative development, financial management, and operational oversight of UCLA CTS. This includes the identification and establishment of staff as well as the management of their work. The DBA will work in collaboration with the GSE&IS Business Office to manage the Center's Budget, secure revenue streams, track, manage expenditures, and propose and develop staff positions. The Director will proactively and strategically work with academic and campus leadership to develop and execute all aspects of the Center's strategic plan.
In collaboration with the Center Director and Faculty Director of CTS, the DBA provides direct management of the administrative operations for the Center. This include day-to-day decision-making, oversight of space and resource management, the development and implementation of administrative controls to assure that actions, both financial and personnel actions, are prepared, submitted and carried out in accordance with Center, department, and University policy. The DBA independently develops and establishes administrative procedures that align with established SE&IS and University Guidelines while ensuring that they support the Center's mission.
As a member of the leadership team, the DBA implements, monitors, and evaluates long and short-term administrative goals for the Center regularly assessing the Center's progress towards those goals and adjusting and/or making improvements as needed. Primary responsibilities include executing the financial and personnel goals and objectives of the Center set by the directors of Center. This includes development and management of CTS budgets with current projections and multi-year forecasting, analysis of changes/fluctuations of budgets to asses budget impacts and need for adjustment, and oversight, fiscal management, and analysis of the Center's state operating funds and contract & grant budgets.
The DBA serves as the Center's point of contact for all Human Resources and Payroll needs/requests including staffing (job description writing/development, recruitment, appropriate classification type, etc.), conflict resolution, payroll and payment discrepancies, and facilitate salary and compensation requests on behalf of the Center. The DBA works closely with GSE&IS Infrastructure Staff (Dean's Office, Associate/Assistant Deans, Fund Managers, HR, the Office of Student Services, Support Services, ETU, etc.) to execute operational functions, as needed.
