Maintain research plots which includes but is not limited to keeping research plots free from weeds, spraying chemicals on plots, installing and maintaining irrigation, collecting research data, spreading and maintaining mulch, pruning research plants and removing limbs from shade tree plots, fertilizing plants, planting, collecting soil samples, pest management practices, keeping accurate records, and other duties as required.

Position Summary:

The applicant will work closely with faculty and technicians to assist in all field, greenhouse, and laboratory experiments. Attention to detail is critical and the employee will receive specific work instructions at the beginning of each new job and work is usually closely supervised. A minimum of 3 years of high school and some related work experience is preferred.

Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification in Position:

A minimum requirement of high school or equivalent combination of education and work experience in horticulture or a related area is preferred . Other training will be provided as appropriate.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies :

Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Work with or without supervision.

Physical Demands:

Bend and lift up to 50 pounds; use Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Work in a laboratory for multiple hours a day. Duties also include intermittent out of town travel to research plots during the workday.
