A Postdoctoral Fellow position in Planetary Geology or a similar field is available in the School of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at Georgia Tech. Candidates should must have a strong background in planetary geology, geomorphology, and remote sensing of Mars. The postdoc will pursue independent research with the PI that combines orbital and/or rove-based datasets to characterize past aqueous environments on Mars.
Postdoctoral Fellow appointments are full time and limited term (recommended to be 1-3 years, with a maximum of 5 years). A Postdoctoral Fellow's responsibilities are substantially research and/or scholarship, but may combine these responsibilities with formal instructional responsibilities (typically no more than 50% effort). Postdoctoral Fellows must have completed a Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate, typically within the past 5 years, and must be supervised/mentored by a faculty member. Postdoctoral Fellows are considered to be Research Faculty without faculty governance voting privileges.Responsibilities The Postsdoc researcher is expected to focus on getting better constraints on temporal changes in climate and water availability on early Mars, by characterizing features and deposits interpreted to have formed by surface liquid water (e.g., fluvial flows). In addition to the remote sensing work, the postdoc is also expected to participate in a planned analog field campaign, to help acquire and analyze data that will give better context to the Mars remote sensing work; contribute to Dr. Rivera-Hernandez’s lab group by participating in group meetings, co-advise students, contributing and/or leading manuscripts, and collaborating in proposals.
