Advertised Job Summary:

Under limited supervision, and reporting to the Vice President for Development, the Associate Vice President for Health Sciences Development (AssocVP) will be responsible for the execution, management and oversight for fundraising priorities for several schools and colleges. The AssocVP will build a prospect portfolio and solicit major and principal gifts in support of those priorities. Responsibilities include the management of professional and administrative development staff in planning, implementing, coordinating and administering comprehensive development programs with an emphasis on major gifts. Works with deans, department chairs, faculty, alumni and volunteers in fundraising efforts to secure major gifts. This position also serves on the UofSC Development Leadership Team.

Minimum Qualifications (Classified and Unclassified positions):

Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 10 years of major gifts related development experience in higher education. Supervisory experience is required. Required to travel to geographical location of donors/prospects, work evenings, and weekends. Must have a valid driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree and 10 years proven experience major gift/development in higher education and/or hybrid development model. Graduate degree preferred. Previous campaign experience including experience soliciting and closing $1M gifts. Familiarity with Blackbaud CRM donor database preferred.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Comprehensive knowledge of principles and methods of development and overseeing diverse fundraising programs. Development or health sciences fundraising experience in higher education or related fundraising capacity. Thorough knowledge of legal and tax issues as they relate to philanthropic support; knowledge of principles, procedures and objectives pertaining to gift planning from private sources. Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with faculty, alumni, donors, students, volunteers, businesses and the general public. Ability to travel, work evenings and weekends, as required. Strongly prefer knowledge of University program goals and objectives. Ability to relate fundraising programs to University goals and objectives. Prior experience in executing strategic donor events hosted by leadership/faculty for a select set of donor prospects. Supervisory experience in hiring, managing, training and mentoring development directors and administrative staff are required.
