Job Summary Under limited supervision and reporting to the Chief of Police, the Emergency Management Coordinator oversees the Savannah State University (SSU) Disaster Preparedness Program, Emergency Operations, Homeland Security plans and assists with Clery reporting. The successful candidate will

    Coordinate with the SSU Emergency Operations Plan (EOP) Committee to draft and maintain the Emergency Operations Plan and other documentation.Prepare After-Action reports required at the conclusion of emergency exercises or actual emergencies.Serve as the assistant to the Chief of Police when emergencies occur. Stay current with local, state, and federal laws regarding emergency management as well as attend, participate, and/or coordinate emergency management monthly training, drills and exercises. Attend, participate in, and coordinate emergency management training and conduct tabletop exercises with University stakeholders.Prepare and monitor grant applications.Educate the campus community regarding disaster preparedness on a monthly basis.Recommend, draft, update, and revise codes as well as prepare reports and plans.Represent the Chief of Police at various meetings.Coordinate/complete various projects, as assigned.Maintain supplies and equipment. Coordinate with various campus departments concerning critical issues as related to emergency management and preparedness. Assist with the university’s Clery Report. May be required to perform additional duties not specifically delineated in this description.
Required Qualifications
  • Associate’s Degree and/or experience with crisis management or a closely related field.
  • Five (5) years of experience, including two (2) years of management or supervisory experience in emergency management operations.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license upon hire and maintain it throughout the duration of employment with the Savannah State University Police Department.
Preferred Qualifications Georgia POST Certified Officer or able to obtain a State of Georgia Police Certification in one year.

Other Information Physcial Demands and Working Environment

Work is performed primarily in a standard office environment with some exposure to an outdoor work environment. May be exposed to extreme weather conditions, potential physical harm, and excessive noise levels. Work is performed in a variety of environmental conditions, mostly indoors and occasionally outdoors, with exposure to wide temperature variations, noise, vibrations, fumes, grease, machinery and its moving parts, odors, and dust. Regularly lifts objects up to 50 lbs. Other physical exertion including pushing, pulling, running, climbing, crawling, and kneeling is required. Incumbent must be able to see and hear in the normal range with or without correction, and communicate verbally and in written form with great facility and must be able to be understood. Incumbent will be required to respond to emergencies after regular working hours and on weekends and must be willing to work an irregular schedule, which may include holidays, evenings, and/or varying hours, as assigned. Must be able to respond to emergency calls within thirty minutes.
