Job Summary

The Instructional Technology staff Specialist:
- works as a part of a team and plays a leadership role for instructing faculty in the use of teaching and learning technologies
- acts as a primary support contact for the teaching and Learning technologies supported by the Center for Teaching and Learning.

Responsibilities

Training - 30%

- Assists faculty with the use of GeorgiaVIEW and other teaching and learning technologies for face-to-face, blended, and online courses.
- Works collaboratively with others to assist faculty with development of online course components, graphic / multimedia components, and content created in a variety of software options.
- Offers individual faculty consultations and group workshops for the development of online course components.
- Builds cooperative, collaborative, and professional relationships with all levels of institutional faculty, administrators and academic support staff.
- Develops a variety of learning products including text based documentation, online tutorials, and face-to-face workshops requiring an understanding of adult education principles and a working knowledge of page layout and publishing principles.
- Identifies areas for improvement within the academic community with regards to teaching and learning skills, make recommendations for change/improvement, and implement solutions.


Training (cont.) - 30%
- Trains departmental staff members as required to maintain proficiency in supported technologies/applications/processes.
- Exhibits an in depth working knowledge of the GeorgiaVIEW application functionality. Research, and test functionality issue for students, faculty, and staff requiring the ability to systematically and logically review all possible points of failure in problem area.
- Acts as liaison between institutional users and application administrators in Athens. Must effectively differentiate between those issues that can/should be handled in house or those that need to be escalated to ITS in Athens.
- Plans and coordinate addition of course sections, faculty, and student registration information into the LMS.
- Has a working knowledge in the institution's student information system (Banner)


Researching - 30%
- Research, locate, and test a variety of applications/processes to fit the needs of faculty.
- Maintain current knowledge of emerging technologies and trends in the teaching and learning technology field.


Coordinating - 10%
- Acts as backup to primary GeorgiaVIEW administrator as required.
- Undertakes routine maintenance and resolving user issues.
- Tests system upgrades and patches as required (backup to primary admin)
- Maintains effective communication with users regarding potential issues or the interruptions of services pertaining to the LMS (GeorgiaVIEW)

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements
Masters in Instructional Technology or related field; AND at least five years of experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Educational Qualifications
- Master's Degree in field and 3-5 years of related experience, including design, and/or teaching, preferably in higher education.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

ABILITIES
Ability to easily assess applications, determine accessibility of application
Ability to learn new software quickly.
Ability to provide instruction and serve as an individual faculty consultant.

KNOWLEDGE
- Knowledge of best practices in online education and facilitation.
Working knowledge of copyright law, Creative Commons licensing, and open education resources (OERs)
Knowledge of course development, design to support active learning, and online learning environments.
Must have a working knowledge in the institution's student registration system (PAWS/Banner)
Knowledge of Office 365, graphics applications (ex. Photoshop or Illustrator) (intermediate level), audio applications, screen capture software, and video recording software. Ability to easily assess applications
- Adobe Suite
- Web-based applications (Padlet, Quizlet, PollEverywhere, Qualtrics, etc.)
- Knowledge of LMS software such as Blackboard, Desire2Learn, Moodle, etc.
- Knowledge of FERPA, ADA/HIPAA, WCAG Standards, Copyright laws, etc.

SKILLS
Technology skills and development that support the needs of the department. Examples are described below.
Excellent problem solving skills.
- Strong organizational skills. Ability to work well with people (Interpersonal skills).
- Excellent communication skills (written & oral).
