Facilities Space Manager, Office of Development and Design - Georgetown University Planning & Facilities Management

Requirements

The Facilities Space Manager is critical in supporting the university's commitment to, and capacity for integrated planning, including space planning and management, which figures prominently in the university's accreditation and research funding. This position is responsible for maintaining, developing and monitoring the utilization of all space on and off campus. The Manager's responsibilities are:
  • Conducts short and long-range space planning projections and analyses in concert with the programmatic needs related to the development and strategic implementation of the university's master plans.
  • Works collaboratively with UIS in support of the web-based database appropriate for this critical information, its maintenance, access and use by myriad colleagues across the university.
  • Analyzes functional space needs by space category across schools, and evaluate current space for the most productive use of space to develop efficient plans.
  • Provides strategic insight and recommendations related to large and complex space programming needs and allocations for capital projects and campus renovations, including BOMA calculations for Real Estate should off-campus leased facilities be required.
  • Along with academic leadership or their designees, the position shall review current space assignments with academic resources and mission; advise of any inconsistencies, and manage space allocations. T
  • Provides counsel on any inconsistencies in support of the mission and overall budgeting. The area calculations produced shall be used for annually monitoring reports required for zoning compliance, as well as ad-hoc requests from Financial Affairs, sponsored research offices and others across campus.


Work Interactions

The position reports to the Director of Planning, currently vacant, under the University Architect in the Office of Development and Design, within Planning & Facilities Management. The manager will have direct supervision of a drafter who is responsible for drawings that support these efforts, including surveys of the existing space, production of drawings and area calculations to match the assigned space, and uploading into the database and drawing archives used by several entities across campus for compliance with the data archives.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree, with a minimum of 3 years of similar experience in higher education or institutional space management.
