Position Description:

The Immigration and Faculty Recruitment Manager helps Kenan-Flagler Business School achieve strategic faculty hiring goals through two roles – faculty human resources recruitment and liaison for international scholar matters. The position provides professional consultation to senior faculty leaders, including the Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, and the seven faculty Area Chairs. This position has primary responsibility for faculty recruitment until job offer acceptance, serving as the School’s subject matter expert on the recruitment of faculty; working directly with Kenan-Flagler’s academic leadership to understand strategic recruitment goals; consulting and advising on internal and external policies and procedures; and making recommendations regarding course of action.
In addition, this position serves as the initial contact for department faculty and staff planning to hire or bring an international scholar to campus, providing consultation, facilitating the timely submission and tracking of visa documents to be submitted to the International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS), preparing and reviewing documents, and serving as a key collaborative partner with ISSS in delivering comprehensive support to Carolina’s international scholar community. This role serves to extend the expertise and knowledge of federal and university policies regarding the process, time frame and requirements for each type of non-immigrant status to the school/division level. The position will field questions and concerns from the School regarding the visa application process and represents Kenan-Flagler’s interests with ISSS. Within the parameters of university policy and ISSS procedures, the position will use independent judgment to troubleshoot any issues that arise in the visa process and make recommendations to faculty and School leadership regarding the best course of action. Types of visas and petitions handled will include: H1-B, EB-1, EB-2, J1, and on rare occasion, TN. The position also independently establishes internal policies and procedures, and negotiates solutions with faculty leadership and ISSS.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Essential Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

Successful candidates will be required to have: experience in an office setting handling transactions that require a high degree of accuracy; demonstrated ability to understand and interpret federal and university policies and procedures for H1B, J1 , EB1 and EB2 processes; demonstrated high attention to detail; a demonstrated ability to successfully multi-task and handle different transactions, in different stages, concurrently; comfort with client contact being primarily through email; the ability to work both independently and collaboratively; excellent grammar and writing skills, and the ability to be tactful, concise and clear in written and verbal communications.

In addition, successful candidates will demonstrate a “can do” attitude, a willingness to go above and beyond what is required, and professional demeanor. A strong emphasis on customer service, including responsiveness to requests and follow-up, and the ability to anticipate customer needs and make process changes to improve the customer experience, is required.

Candidates must possess strong computer skills including Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint. Position generally requires in-office presence during work hours.

Preferred Qualifications:

An undergraduate degree is strongly preferred. At least two years of work experience in an office setting is preferred. Demonstrated experience with immigration petitions is preferred. Experience in a higher education setting is preferred.
