Description of Work:

NOTE: This position is located in Kannapolis, NC (approximately 2 hours from UNC’s main campus).

A temporary Research Technician position is available in the Voruganti Lab at the UNC Chapel Hill Nutrition Research Institute (NRI) in Kannapolis. This position will identify genetic and environmental factors that influence uric acid metabolism.

The NRI is located on the 350-acre North Carolina Research Campus in Kannapolis, North Carolina, 14 miles from Charlotte NC (2 hours from Chapel Hill). The 125,000-square-foot building houses a broad variety of laboratory and research spaces, clinical facilities, offices, and meeting areas. Research at the NRI focuses on the underlying mechanisms for individual differences in metabolism and nutrient requirements. Current NRI faculty members study the role of epigenetics in progenitor cell proliferation, effects of diet on DNA and histone methylation, SNPs resulting in metabolic inefficiencies, energy metabolism, 1-carbon metabolism, brain development, fetal alcohol syndrome, obesity and carcinogenesis. NRI research is complemented by research programs from several other universities on the North Carolina Research Campus and by the state of the art vivarium and stellar genomics and microscopy instrumentation in the David Murdock core laboratory building. Education and Experience:

- Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.

- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Must be able to help with laboratory work involving biological samples.

- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in biological sciences, biotechnology, or related field.
