The Department of Molecular Biomedical Sciences at the NC State University College of Veterinary Medicine trains doctors of veterinary medicine and graduate students interested in research-based careers focused on the discovery of new knowledge about animal and human health and disease and using those findings to enhance animal and human health and well-being. Students get in depth knowledge of the molecular mechanisms of disease, and experience in the development of new procedures which enable its prevention, diagnosis, and treatment.
Our faculty are recognized experts in the fields of cell biology and physiology, cancer biology, developmental biology, environmental science and toxicology, genomics, infectious diseases, neuroscience, pharmacology, radiology, and reproductive biology. Our goals are to advance veterinary medical science through innovative basic and applied research, and by mentoring and inspiring students, providing world-class clinical and diagnostic services, and offering the public the latest knowledge through innovative extension and engagement activities.
Our research faculty work in state-of-the-art research facilities including a transgenic mouse facility where graduate students can participate in research projects related to mouse and animal genomics.Essential Job Duties:
The Department of Molecular Biomedical Sciences in the College of Veterinary Medicine at North Carolina State University is recruiting a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of assistant or associate professor. Candidates pursuing research in all areas of translational neuroscience are encouraged to apply. We are seeking candidates who employ cutting-edge and innovative approaches that bridge disciplines and build on existing strengths in our growing interdepartmental and intercollegiate neuroscience community. There is particular interest in areas of neural and glial development, circuits and behavior, neuroimmunology, aging, pain biology and therapy, and iPSC modeling of neurological diseases. Preference will be given to individuals whose research has the potential to make a tangible impact on animal and/or human health through innovative discovery. The new faculty will be expected to establish or possess (based on rank) an extramurally funded program with national recognition and contribute to undergraduate, graduate, and veterinary education. Our highly rated veterinary hospital has state-of-the-art diagnostic and therapeutic capacities and a strong community of both clinician and basic scientists. The successful candidate will have the unique opportunity to engage and collaborate with veterinary clinician scientists who are world leaders in their fields. There are active research groups led by clinician scientists in the fields of acute pain, musculoskeletal pain, cancer and cancer treatment pain, behavior, epilepsy, brain neoplasia, spinal cord injury, neurodegenerative disease, and aging all with well-funded programs studying naturally occurring disease in dogs and cats. Our faculty also collaborate closely with research and clinical groups across the Research Triangle in North Carolina (Duke University, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and local industry) and receive support from the Clinical Studies Core of the Comparative Medicine Institute to complete clinical trials. There are additional opportunities for collaborations with our Colleges of Engineering, Sciences, and Agriculture and Life Sciences. NC State provides strong research support through its genomics, bioinformatics, flow cytometry, and microscopy core facilities.Other Responsibilities:

A doctoral degree in a relevant field from an accredited institution with relevant postdoctoral experience.Other Required Qualifications:
- Must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills and a demonstrated ability to work with others in a collegial team atmosphere.
- Successful candidates will be expected to develop extramurally funded research programs, which will include the ability to successfully write and submit proposals for grant funding.
- Research training at the doctoral level.
- Demonstrated publications in the area.
