TITLE: University College Advisor II
DEPARTMENT: University College REPORTS TO: Executive Director of University CollegeEFFECTIVE DATE: TBDEMPLOYMENT STATUS: Full-time EMPLOYMENT CLASSIFICATION: Exempt SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY: University College at KSU services all student to provide seamless, robust, focused, and comprehensive educational support. The UC advisor will join a team of outstanding individuals with diverse professional and personal backgrounds in the University College Advising Center who form a high-functioning community of practice. The UC Advisor will provide personalized, on-on-one support in navigating the road to academic success, and staying on track towards degree completion. Additionally, UC Advisors may provide instruction for KSU seminar courses, and assist with retention programming efforts.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:Conduct personalized academic advising meetings to assist students with course selection and graduation plans tailored to their academic interests and goals.Assist with the selection of majors and the fulfillment of the curriculum requirements.Help students gain an understanding of the university Liberal Studies Core requirements.Assist with course selection and registration.Monitor academic progress.Assist with transition issues as needed and provide referral to campus resources.Assist with retention programming efforts.Act as a resource for campus constituencies and committees whose responsibilities related to student retention and, as appropriate, take a leadership role in retention initiatives.80% Advising; 20% Special Assignment.Represent the Advising Office and/or athe Center for Student Success at open houses, admission events, and other functions as necessary.Performs other site and position specific functions as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:Master’s degree (preferred)1-2 years’ experience working in Higher Education KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES: Superior listening and critical thinking skills and the ability to multi-taskExperience with retention data collection and reportingWorking knowledge of postsecondary academic advising and retention strategiesCandidates should have the ability to become knowledgeable of the range of varied student services available, enrollment services, academic policies, requirements, and procedures of Kentucky State UniversityStrong interpersonal/human relations skills essentialAbility to initiate and maintain professional relationships with diverse groups, demonstrate sensitivity to the needs of a diverse student population including low-income, first-generation, students of color, disabled, underrepresented, older and non-traditional, and international studentsMust have excellent verbal and written communicationAbility to maintain confidentiality is essentialMust have attention to detailBasic skills in productivity software (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel)Ability to collect, analyze and report retention related dataMust be able to multi-task, prioritize, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlinesMust have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and possess excellent organizational skillsAbility to interpret and communicate university policies, procedures, and associated federal and state regulationsWork staggered hours including evening hours during the work week as assigned SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This position does not have any supervisory responsibilities.
