About Us:
The University of Toronto Libraries (UTL) system is the largest academic library in Canada and is fourth among peer institutions in North America, behind just Harvard, Yale and Columbia. The system consists of 42 libraries located on three university campuses: St. George, Mississauga, and Scarborough. This array of college libraries, special collections, and specialized libraries and information centres supports the teaching and research requirements of 300 graduate programs, over 70 professional programs, and more than 700 undergraduate degree programs. More than 150,000 new print volumes are acquired each year. The Libraries data centre houses more than 200 servers with a storage capacity of 1.5 petabytes.

The User Services Department delivers the public-facing services to all patrons of the Robarts Library, which houses the research collections in the humanities and social sciences, the media collections and the government publications collection. This department also supports the delivery of some library services to all of the University of Toronto Libraries, such as the Reader Registration Service and the extended hours service.

Your Opportunity:

The Information Services Manager is required to be a strong administrator, team builder and leader who can who can work independently to provide senior level support to the Department Head in many administrative, operational, management and budgetary responsibilities. The incumbent is involved in formulating policies, providing overall leadership to administrative staff and supervising the operation and delivery of services in the User Services Department, including Reader Registration, access and other fulfillment activities.

The Information Services Manager makes recommendations and coordinates policy development to harmonize and ensure consistent policies across 42 libraries in the UTL system. In addition, the incumbent serves as the UTL representative on various University wide committees and Boards.

The Information Services Manager is also responsible for overseeing library access, coordinating with Safety and Security, and analyzing operational statistics to recommend improvements and efficiencies to library information services in order to support faculty, students, researchers and patrons.

Qualifications Required:


Undergraduate degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.


Minimum 4 years’ experience working, preferably in an academic library environment.
Demonstrated leadership and/or management skills required.
Knowledge of the UTL system and integrated library services software .
Knowledge of Human Resource practices, ability to interpret collective bargaining agreements and working in a unionized environment is an asset.


• Intermediate working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of software
• Strong planning and organizational skills;

• Excellent problem solving, decision-making and good judgment
• Demonstrated decisiveness while working under the pressure or constantly-changing priorities,
• Excellent communication (written and oral) skills
• Demonstrated ability to implement and lead a variety of projects.
• Superior interpersonal skills; must have initiative; professionalism, diplomacy and tact;
• Experience managing a budget

• Proven effectiveness relating to all levels of the University – administration, faculty, staff, students, and external members of the community
• Awareness of and sensitivity to issues of equity, diversity and inclusion
