The National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs; www.NamUs.gov) is a national information clearinghouse and resource center providing investigative and forensic support to missing, unidentified, and unclaimed person cases. Fully-funded by the National Institute of Justice and managed through a cooperative agreement with the University of North Texas Center for Human Identification, all NamUs services and resources are provided at no cost.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS POSITION IS CONTINGENT UPON THE AWARD OF GRANT FUNDING AND IS EXPECTED TO TERMINATE ON OR BEFORE SEPTEMBER 30, 2021.

The NamUs Forensic Odontologist will provide daily support to the Regional Program Specialist team and external stakeholders in the areas of acquiring, scanning, coding, uploading, and comparing dental information in NamUs. This position will also develop monthly forensic service statistics for programmatic progress reports serve as a forensic subject matter expert to support training, outreach, and other NamUs program initiatives.

Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) with seven (7) years of related experience in the field of forensic odontology.

NamUs Spec Odontology

Provide daily assistance to NamUs stakeholders in the areas of obtaining, scanning, coding, uploading, and comparing dental information in NamUs.

Reviewing NamUs case entries for completeness and appropriateness of information and communicating with relevant parties to make revisions to case data as necessary.

Develop networks of criminal justice professionals and non-governmental agencies to enhance awareness and use of NamUs and identify agencies in need of training.

Development and report monthly statistics regarding forensic services provided and turnaround time.

Participate in NamUs training events and/or curriculum development as assigned.

Serve as a liaison to IT development staff to assist with the development of dental search algorithms and other system enhancements.
