Department Summary:

The Department of Biostatistics and Epidemiology is one of two departments in the UNTHSC School of Public Health. The Department of Biostatistics and Epidemiology strives to become a model for innovative research, educational excellence, and high impact public health practice that positively affects health issues locally, nationally, and globally. Our goal is to provide a collegial interdisciplinary learning environment that produces strong researchers and public health practitioners who use biostatistics, epidemiology, and environmental health theories, principles, and methods to significantly improve health at the population level. Graduates from our masters and doctoral programs have found employment in academia, public health departments, research organizations, and industry. The faculty in the Department have diverse expertise in areas such as healthy aging, cancer, quasi-experimental trial methodology, surveillance, vaccination programming, disaster preparedness, zoonosis, vector-borne diseases, and air pollution, as well as in the development of novel statistical methods applied to clinical trials, neuroimaging, survey sampling, genetics, and environmental monitoring. Their efforts have led to numerous high impact publications and external funding from the National Institutes of Health, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Department of Justice, and the city of Fort Worth.

Position Overview:

The research project is a 2 year long project to study pain from osteoarthritis in the Vietnamese population.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree and two (2) years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Good communication skills (professionalism, empathy, interviewing)
  • Well organized and attention to details
  • Be self-motivated, flexible/adaptable, and can work independently
  • Able to multi-task and manage multiple deadlines
  • Able to work with research tracking databases (Excel, REDCap)
  • Able to document research procedures
  • Able to assist in data management and quality control

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalence in work experience preferred
  • Fluent in Vietnamese and English
  • Experience in community outreach, and some experience in research preferred
  • Able to work some evenings and weekends in the DFW area

Work Schedule:

Monday – Friday 8am – 5pm with occasional evenings and weekends
