Job Description:

The Office of Strategic Communications and Marketing is accepting applications for a Senior Communication Strategist. This position is responsible to the Assistant Vice President for Communications for implementing a multi-dimensional, platform thought leadership communications. In this role, the Senior Communications Strategist will develop thought leadership content such as op-eds, white papers, social media content, video/audio production for university leadership and faculty. Thought leadership communications will encompass local, state, and national audiences. Relatedly, this role will partner and support the Vice President for Strategic Communications and Marketing and other university leadership with creating internal and external strategy and thought leadership-oriented presentations.

The successful incumbent will implement a thought leadership communications strategy working in tandem with marketing and communications leaders. They will work with university leadership and faculty to author or co-author op-ed pieces, white papers, essays blogs and other narrative. They will create relationships with thought leader influencers inclusive of state and national media outlets to create opportunities for the university to provide academic, research and administrative knowledge and expertise. In addition, they will monitor news events or topic of special interest for timely and relevant thought leadership opportunities develops and cultivates relationships with state and national editorial writers/broadcast producers/higher ed outlet editors.

In addition, the successful candidate will assist in preparing internal and external communications for university leadership, including assisting the Vice President for Strategic Communications and Marketing with presentations for the Board of Trustees, the Cabinet, professional conference, etc.

Expected Salary:

Salary commensurate with experience.

Minimum Requirements:

Master's degree and six years of relevant experience or a bachelor's degree in appropriate area and eight years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Must be able to work well with the media as well as a variety of internal and external publics, including university leadership and faculty.

Must possess a high level of writing skill which demonstrates the ability to communicate complex ideas, research, strategies in an impactful and audience-centric approach.

Experience in working in a highly dynamic environment preferred.

Should have highly developed communication skills.

Should have a well-developed understanding of issues facing higher education at the state and national levels.

Should extensive knowledge of the operations and activities of the University of Florida and be able to recognize and relate events and information that provide opportunities for thought leadership.

Should be able to work on a variety of projects at one time and respond well to pressure situations.
