The School of Education and Human Development at the University of Virginia invites applications for a Research Scientist to work on the Study of Early Education through Partnerships. SEE-Partnerships conducts rigorous research with state partners to improve early childhood education opportunities at scale.
The incumbent will contribute to a large portfolio of early childhood education research projects conducted in partnerships with state policy partners. The individual must be highly collaborative and have experience working on large-scale studies, data collection efforts, and/or research policy partnerships. The individual will help with all aspects of research including planning meetings with state partners; organizing, writing, and fielding large-scale surveys and other data collection efforts; planning, conducting, and supervising data cleaning and analyses; leading the production of policy-relevant reports; and disseminating findings to diverse audiences. With support from the study PIs, the incumbent will help supervise a research team including staff and students.
The incumbent will attend weekly meetings with the PI to discuss progress, lab management issues, and results of research. The ideal candidate will be a highly-motivated, efficient, individual with a history of excellent work ethic, attention to detail, high levels of organization, ability to juggle multiple deadlines, and work both independently and collaboratively.
The candidate must possess a Ph.D. in education or public policy. They must have experience conducting large-scale, quantitative research in education, and possess strong data management skills using Stata. They must also possess strong writing skills, with experience leading or contributing to research writing aimed at diverse audiences. Experience (1) conducting research related to early childhood education; (2) working directly with policy makers and other stake-holders and/or; (3) collecting data is all strongly preferred.
