Job Summary:

The Accountant I reports to the Director of Accounting. Must be able to work under minimal supervision with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and professional judgment. The Accountant handles a variety of accounting responsibilities. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college with a major course work in accounting, finance or other business-related area is required. Two to four years experience in accounting is preferred.

Ability to demonstrate initiative, willingness to learn and actively participate in a teamwork atmosphere.

Knowledge of generally accepting accounting principles and governmental accounting principles.

Skilled in the use of computers and specialized software.

Ability to solve problems and multi-task.

Strong attention to detail and organization skills.

Ability to plan, schedule and manage projects and assignments.

Ability to interpret policies, procedures and guidelines including State and College.

Travel – some travel could be required but minimal if at all.

Working conditions –
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, walk, see and hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand, kneel, bend, and twist upper body. The employee must regularly carry and lift up to 10 pounds, and move up to 15 pounds. Must be able to operate a personal computer and other office equipment.
On rare occasions an area related to inventory procedures could be hot or cold depending upon the season.

Preferred Qualifications:

Accounting major or minor is preferred.

Knowledge of State laws governing the handling of State property (preferred).

SALARY :

Commensurate with experience.

Work Hours:

40 hrs a week; Monday through Friday 8 to 5

Essential Job Functions:

Monitor all accounts receivable accounts (student, third party, etc.) in Banner and ensure timely billing and posting.

Essential Job Functions:

Monitor all accounts receivable accounts for any necessary write-offs and ensure allowance for doubtful accounts remains in accordance with accounting principles and accurate.

Creates and monitors processes to evaluate revenue receipts for unrelated business income and prepares annual 990-T.

Essential Job Functions:

Assist in the yearly financial reporting process as well as the annual budget process as needed.

Assist in grant monitoring (as needed).

Participate and prepare other reports and accounting related tasks as needed by the Director of Accounting.
