The Biomedical Engineer III position works within the Biomedical Engineering section of Facilities and Support Services, maintaining clinical equipment through the effective use of the Medical Equipment Management Plan. Performs a variety of tasks, including the installation, maintenance, calibration, and repair of complex biomedical equipment. Provides technical guidance to other BMET I & II employees in the department.

The Biomedical Engineer III will utilizing standard and specialized electronic test equipment and tools to perform calibration, maintenance, and repairs of medical equipment.

  • Repairs, tests, and calibrates most classes of medical equipment according to OEM recommendations.
  • Performs departmental audits/rounds and inventory reconciliation
  • Serves as a member or advisor to the hospital’s Risk Management, Safety and/or other appropriate committees, as needed.
  • Prioritizes work load effectively and complete all work assignments in a timely manner.
  • Maintains accurate medical equipment documentation as required by current policies and procedures.
  • Orders parts and supplies necessary for the servicing of medical equipment to maintain required par levels.
  • Documents work order time and expenses in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Supervises services provided by outside vendors to ensure quality and scope of services have been met.
  • Maintains current knowledge of pertinent regulatory agencies and the policies, codes, standards, and regulations that apply to the clinical equipment.
  • Maintains documentation required by management and as outlined by current policies and procedures.
  • Inspects incoming equipment for compliance with codes, standards and manufacturer’s recommendations.
  • Orders parts and supplies necessary for the servicing of medical equipment.
  • Provides technical guidance, mentoring and training to other employees in the department.
  • Serves as a reference source for clinical engineering and clinical staff with regards to appropriate procedures for the operation and maintenance of clinical equipment.
  • Uses office automation hardware, software and diagnostic service software appropriate to the equipment being serviced.
  • Updates medical equipment technical library as new versions are available.
  • Inspects incoming equipment for compliance with codes, standards and manufacturer’s recommendations.
  • Demonstrates initiative and concern for planning, time utilization and cost containment.
  • Supports multiple hospitals, specialized laboratories, and clinical research facilities.
  • Must have effective communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
