The Biomedical Engineer II position works within the Biomedical Engineering section of Facilities and Support Services, maintaining clinical equipment through the effective use of the Medical Equipment Management Plan. Performs a variety of routine tasks, including the installation, maintenance, calibration, and repair of biomedical equipment with minimal supervision.

The Biomedical Engineer II will utilizing standard and specialized electronic test equipment and tools to perform calibration, maintenance, and repairs of medical equipment.

  • Repairs, tests, and calibrates most classes of medical equipment according to OEM recommendations.
  • Performs departmental audits/rounds and inventory reconciliation.
  • Prioritizes work load effectively and complete all work assignments in a timely manner.
  • Maintains accurate medical equipment documentation as required by current policies and procedures.
  • Orders parts and supplies necessary for the servicing of medical equipment.
  • Works under minimal supervision; generally organizes and prioritizes workload.
  • Conducts cross-training in the techniques of testing, calibrating, operating and troubleshooting biomedical systems for less experienced BMET’s.
  • Communicates routinely with supervisory personnel on the status of equipment repair and maintenance activities.
  • Reports and documents all medical equipment operator errors and safety issues.
  • Maintains medical equipment technical library as new updates are available.
  • Utilizes the biomedical Computerized Maintenance Management Systems to document all medical equipment activities.
  • Supervises services provided by outside vendors to ensure quality and scope of services have been met.
  • Inspects incoming equipment for compliance with codes, standards and manufacturer’s recommendations.
  • Demonstrates initiative and concern for planning, time utilization and cost containment.
  • Supports multiple hospitals, specialized laboratories, and clinical research facilities.
  • Must have effective communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.

Other duties as assigned.:

  • Ability to use an equipment management program that meets current CMS, TJC, AHCA, and other AHJ requirements.
  • Knowledge of electrical safety theory, and be able to perform electrical safety testing on medical equipment.
  • Ability to manage a recall and safety alert program for medical devices including medical device hazard investigations to assure compliance with patient safety goals, SMDA, and TJC requirements.
  • Knowledge of field's concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • Intermediate computer skills / abilities
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.

Associates Degree (AS) in Biomedical Technology, Electronics, Engineering, or equivalent in Biomedical training / certification from an accredited institution; or Armed Service education / training program

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.

Two (2) to Five (5+) years of experience with biomedical repairs / service

Experience with Laboratory, Research and Surgical equipment

Proficient in all skills required for a BMET I.
