Job duties include:

Provide academic advisement for students admitted to the online BA in Elementary Education Palmetto College program. Deliver program orientation to these distance learners. Assist these students with course selection, registration, financial aid, fees, and other university processes when appropriate. Monitor assigned advisees as they progress through the program. Complete formal progression and graduation checks at appropriate times of the year. Notify students and program faculty of eligibility.

Communicate details and benefits of the online BA in Elementary Palmetto College program with prospective students and coordinate recruiting efforts with 2-year campuses for this program. Review and evaluate transcripts for prospective online BA in Elementary students.

Communicate with prospective students and applicants for assigned online graduate programs to ensure smooth transition from prospect to enrolled student and to keep prospective students engaged throughout the admission process. Communications would include responses to initial inquiry, updates on application status, and new student welcome email.

Provide support for other College recruitment activities as assigned and as needed, including facilitation of academic information sessions for prospective students and attending off campus recruitment events.

In collaboration with other student services staff and faculty in the college, design and implement student retention strategies and contribute to overall unit goals by completing additional duties as assigned or required.

Minimum Qualifications (Classified and Unclassified positions):

Masters degree in Student Services or related field, or bachelor’s degree and 2 years related experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous experience with academic advising and/or recruitment in a higher educational setting and/or previous experience as an educator in the k-12 setting is preferred.


The position requires strong critical thinking skills and attention to detail. Strong written and verbal communication skills are required. The ability to work independently while developing strong collaborative relationships with colleagues, faculty, and students is needed. The individual must be able to exercise excellent professional judgment and discretion, making decisions on a regular basis that impact student welfare and the institution. Strong organizational skills and ability to accurately maintain, manipulate, and retrieve data using various software applications, including spreadsheets is a must.
