The digital communications specialist works as a part of the College of Engineering and Computing Communications Office to support its strategic communications goals. Under supervision, the position is responsible for maintenance of the CEC’s digital marketing platforms, including the website, social media accounts, etc. The position will also support the office through analyzing and tracking web and social media analytics and making recommendations that support office goals. This position will assist with other marketing efforts as needed, including writing and editing stories, photographing events, monitoring media, creating marketing materials, and distributing content.
Website Content and Maintenance: Assist Digital Media Marketing Strategist in building new pages and implementing new tools. Implement a schedule of routine updates to the college’s website and facilitate approval process of changes. Accommodate requests from college faculty, staff, and leadership to update information as needed. Liaise with the central communications office to address issues on pages within the university website. Prepare and update images and post news articles as needed.
Website Quality Assurance: Under supervision, apply best practices of digital accessibility, mobile responsiveness and search engine optimization and support other web users in these efforts. Address browser and device compatibility to ensure various computers can access content. Troubleshoot site errors such as misspellings, broken links and accessibility issues as needed. Ensure compliance with UofSC brand standards and CMS guidelines.
Social Media Specialist: Plan and create engaging content for social media distribution which may include photos, videos, stories, links, takeovers, live videos and college announcements. Administrator of all accounts and ensures UofSC brand standards. Support the college social media team by collecting, writing and scheduling social media posts on all platforms. Track online conversations, reply to messages and engage with followers. Implement digital accessibility on all social media platforms. Stay abreast of social media best practices and trends, seeking opportunities that engage our users.
Marketing and Communications: Assist with general marketing and communication strategies across the College of Engineering and Computing. Assist with developing content, writing and editing stories, photographing events, monitoring media, creating marketing materials, and distributing content. Coordinate meetings with stakeholders and maintaining communications calendar. Perform other duties as assigned.
Analytics and Data Management: Use Google Analytics and native social media analytics to make recommendations that support communications strategy. Create and maintain web forms and notifications. Create and track URLs using UTM codes and link shorteners to support marketing objectives.Minimum Qualifications (Classified and Unclassified positions):
Bachelor’s degreePreferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in journalism, public relations, marketing, advertising, visual communications, media arts, information science, or related field. Prior experience in digital marketing (social media, web, photography, advertising, writing, etc.).Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Experience writing and posting web content for various audiences. Proficiency in AP Style. Familiarity with basic design and photography/videography principles. Attention to detail, highly organized. Experience with design software such as Adobe Creative Suite and Canva.Safety Sensitive or Security Sensitive:
