Position Highlights:

The University of Arizona College of Medicine – Phoenix Center for Simulation and Innovation (CSI) is seeking qualified candidates to join our Simulation Center hourly staff (non-faculty) pool. Successful candidates will support CSI educational and community events at different levels of skills, experience, and knowledge, reflected in two distinct position levels for hourly Sim Operators and Sim Workers. These positions support varied faculty, students and staff. They prepare for, support, may conduct, and provide a variety of services based on their experience and the tiered level’s duties and responsibilities. Simulation Center Pooled Staff - Sim Operator and Sim Worker may operate high- and low-fidelity clinical simulation equipment, set-up and tear-down simulation events, and interact with faculty, students, clinical partners, clients, community partners and more, in concert with or independently from CSI staff.

This is a part time position, scheduled on an as needed basis. The schedule and hours worked will vary based upon CSI events, programs and projects that are planned and scheduled. Hourly staff self-select and sign up for offered hourly work shifts using CSI's online scheduling and staffing systems. Hourly work shifts are typically but not exclusively 4 hours, and may vary as much as to a full day or a partial shift as posted on varied sign-up schedules, based on CSI's variable needs. When scheduled for a shift, parking costs will be covered by the department. Applications will be accepted and reviewed for each posted shift on an ongoing basis and selection of hires and shift assignments will be based on the needs of the program. This position does not include benefits, and Pooled Staff schedules will comply with published schedule constraints for non-benefited hourly work.

The Center for Simulation and Innovation at the UA College of Medicine – Phoenix is a state-of-the-art, technology-driven, clinical simulation training facility supporting the innovative educational needs of the medical school and its clinical affiliates, including industry health care partners and the community. This facility is dedicated, in every sense, to providing truly experiential, innovative and immersive simulation education. With 33,000 square feet of dedicated space, the Center for Simulation and Innovation represents one of the largest simulation facilities housed within a university in the U.S. and is a flagship for the University of Arizona and the downtown Phoenix Biomedical Campus.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • The Simulation Center Pooled Staff Sim Operator and Sim Worker positions support and operate scenarios to support high- and low- fidelity clinical education using simulation and related technology. The position prepares, participates in, implements and may conduct varied simulation events, and communicates effectively with all faculty, students, clients.
  • The Simulation Center Pooled Staff positions provides support in preparing, setting up and tearing down simulation events.
  • The Simulation Center Pooled Staff positions perform additional departmental duties as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

Entry Level Simulation Worker Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school graduate or GED or equivalent.
  • Ability to bend, stoop and lift up to 50 lbs.

Simulation Operator Minimum Qualifications:

  • At least 6 months of recent experience providing healthcare proficiently in a clinical setting;
  • OR, experience as a(n) Registered Nurse (RN), Certified Emergency Paramedic (CEP), Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), medical assistant, Respiratory Therapist (RT), Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA), simulation healthcare provider, student in healthcare related field OR equivalent experience;
  • OR, at least 6 months of previous experience in a clinical simulation setting;
  • Ability to bend, stoop and lift up to 50 lbs.

Preferred Qualifications:

An ideal candidate will have the following Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge in clinical healthcare practices
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suites.
  • Able to utilize cloud based technology.
  • Able to effectively communicate verbally and through written techniques.
  • Able to lift 50 lbs.
  • Entry Level Simulation Worker Preferred Qualifications:

  • Understanding of basic medical terminology.
  • Healthcare experience.
  • Simulation Operator Preferred Qualifications:

  • Current unrestricted license or certification in good standing to practice in respective healthcare specialty area.
  • At least 1 year of previous experience in a clinical simulation setting.
