MCKINLEY HEALTH CENTER

McKinley Health Center, one of the nation's premier Student Health Centers, is seeking a talented Stress Management & Wellness Coordinator in our Health Education department for full-time employment. We are a fully accredited ambulatory care clinic providing primary care to over 50,000 university students. In addition to mental health care, the center also provides women's health, and primary care services.

We are seeking dynamic service-oriented Stress Management & Wellness Coordinator for an exciting career in College Health to provide health education in an ambulatory setting for eligible students at the University of Illinois. Salary is competitive and includes a comprehensive benefit package with professional liability coverage. Starting date is negotiable.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

A. ADVISING/CONSULTING

1. Appropriately take patient histories, comprehensive enough to address the patient’s key concern and other mental health concerns.
2. Provide mental health assessment and treatment for students with mental health concerns. Appropriate treatments may include individual, couples and group psychotherapy, or referrals as deemed appropriate.
3. Make referrals to other providers as appropriate to facilitate treatment plan with standard and crisis interventions. This may include out-patient psychotherapeutic techniques or facilitating hospitalization at community hospitals on behalf of students.
4. Ensure that patients receive adequate education to effectively participate in their diagnostic and therapeutic plan, and that they understand and consent to that plan and understand other appropriate alternatives.
5. Consistently demonstrate competency with regard to diagnosis and procedure coding.
6. Develop and maintain technical skills necessary to provide excellent and efficient patient care. This includes competency with computer applications that enhance individual patient care and the efficiency of the health center.
7. Stay informed of the newest developments in mental health by attending educational conferences, literature reviews, and consulting with other clinical personnel.
8. Conduct individual consultation/coaching with students with mental health concerns including stress management, time management, self-esteem, sleep disturbances, anxiety, homesickness, anger management and general wellness.
9. Refer to, consult with and provide information to appropriate McKinley Health Center staff, Student Affairs Units and academic units on stress management education, mental health concerns and general wellness.
10. Serve on the McKinley Health Center and Student Affairs committees as needed including committees that address mental/social health issues.
11. Refer students, when appropriate, to campus or community agencies, medical facilities, etc.
12. Always operate within scope of practice and comply with privileges granted.

B. PROGRAMMING

1. Plan, implement and evaluate stress management programs and services for UIUC students. Formats include presentations, guest lecturing, interactive outreach engagement and campus wide programming.
2. Develop, implement and evaluate programming targeting mental health concerns and college aged students. Collaborate with other units across campus that care and support student’s mental wellbeing.
3. Plan, implement and evaluate wellness related programs that concentrate on the eight dimensions of wellness used in Student Affairs to promote positive and healthful wellness practices and techniques.
4. Design or locate appropriate stress management, mental health and wellness materials for utilization during programming activities, consultations and for use by McKinley’s Stress Management Peers.
5. Supervise, train and coordinate McKinley’s Stress Management Peers. Organize and explore outreach opportunities that promote and encourage peer to peer education and prevention strategies.
6. Create and develop content regarding sleep disturbances, anger management, time management, self-esteem, homesickness, procrastination and self-care.
7. Manage the collection and distribution of McKinley’s stress relief packs each semester.
8. Maintain and update contents for the sleep packs at the Health Resource Centers.
9. In consultation with various campus units, collaborate and represent McKinley’s Health Education Unit in campus wide events and committees.

C. ADMINISTRATION

1. Supervise, train and direct graduate student assistant, student interns, and other student workers as assigned.
2. Implement and evaluate educational programs and contribute to the McKinley Health Center Quality Improvement program.
3. Develop goals and objectives for the stress management and wellness program. Enhance and create stress and wellness related services and resources to further support the mental and emotional wellbeing of our students.
4. Assist with development of the annual goals and objectives for the Health Education Unit and participate in the strategic planning processes.
5. Attend the Health Education staff meetings, and other meetings as recommended by the Unit Manager.
6. Meet regularly with the Unit Manager to inform of changes, developments and program progress.
7. Contribute to the professional growth and national recognition of MHC by participating at national conferences, and meeting and by conducting scientific study and evaluation of health education programs, projects and publications.
8. Participate in continuing education programs and professional growth experiences.
9. Execute all University policies and procedures including those of the Health Education Unit, MHC and Student Affairs.
10. Responsible and accountable to support and ensure a culture of safety, quality and risk management including compliance with ethics.
11. Assume appropriated additional related duties, as requested by the MHC Director and the director of Health

Education

A Master’s degree in Social Work is required. Licensed Clinical Social Worker, required.

Experience

Two years of experience in consulting/advising, developing and implementing programming in stress/mental health issue, general wellness in higher education, preferred.
Experience in a college health setting, preferred.

Environmental Demands

The individual in this position resides at McKinley Health Center but is often present around campus for outreach programs, collaborations and networking. At times work is required in the evening and/or weekends. Light lifting of program supplies but no unusual physical requirements.
