Job Description Summary
This position provides general anesthesia and sedation to hospitalized, outpatient, or emergent small animals
Job Description
Responsibilities include:
- Anesthetize small animals
a. includes inpatient, outpatient, critical and non-critical cases
b. review the medical history of the animal
c. develop an appropriate anesthetic protocol for each patient
d. place IV catheter(s)
e. perform physical exams
f. induce, maintain, recover the animal
g. oversee the animals recovery and indicate when the animal is able to return to its ward or be discharged
- Set up appropriate equipment for cases
- Communicate with MJR-VHUP clinicians about inpatient cases
- Maintain the “flow” of the daily schedule by starting cases at the appropriate times and communicating with clinicians.
- The position will be 5 days per week, 8 hours per day.
- Overnight and weekend on call is required once fully trained.
Qualifications
Veterinary Technician, Anesthesia A- CVT or board eligible- 0-1 year experience
Veterinary Technician, Anesthesia B- CVT 2-3 years experience
Veterinary Technician, Anesthesia C- CVT 3-4 years experience
Veterinary Technician, Anesthesia D- CVT 5-8 years experience
Physical effort required: Ability to lift 25+pounds with assistance, reaching, standing, bending for prolonged periods of time.
