Duties and Responsibilities:

Loyola University Chicago’s (LUC) School of Environmental Sustainability (SES) invites applications for a part-time (10-15 hours per week) Content Manager position for an international environmental science e-textbook called Healing Earth, beginning February 2021. Healing Earth is a major educational outreach project within the SES. It is a free, online environmental science textbook that incorporates environmental ethics, spirituality and a call to action in each chapter. It is designed for high school seniors and college freshmen with communities at the margins being the primary target. Healing Earth is currently being used by thousands of students in over 125 countries worldwide. It has been translated to Spanish, Portuguese and French, and the next language translation will be Mandarin.
We are looking for person to join the SES Healing Earth team to help us build, improve and maintain Healing Earth in WordPress. The ideal candidate will have experience in WordPress and Drupal and will be able to copy edit and make formatting updates to the 3,000 page text as we convert it from its current Drupal v.7 platform to WordPress. As a content manager, the successful candidate should be familiar with the environmental science, ethics and spirituality content of the textbook, be a good copy editor and content manager, perform well under deadlines and be detail-oriented. Strong organizational and time-management skills are required. Once the book has been completely converted to WordPress the candidate will be responsible for updating the site with new chapters and content as needed, and new translations, as well as separately maintaining all backup content/media files. This is a 2-year position, renewable for up to 5 years. Working days/times are flexible and candidates can work from home or on campus and will have a desk within the SES.

SES also offers B. A. Degrees in Environmental Studies and Environmental Policy, and an MS degree in Environmental Science & Sustainability with four concentrations. Healing Earth is a major project within SES. The SES is housed within a state-of-the-art geo-thermally heated/cooled building complex containing a 3,100 sq ft greenhouse, aquaponics facilities, a biodiesel production facility, teaching & research labs, environmental analytical lab, and a ‘green’ dormitory. The campus prioritizes sustainability with energy efficient LEED certified buildings, permeable pavement, green roof installations, and student-run urban gardens supplying the LUC Farmer’s Market. The Loyola University Retreat & Ecology Campus (LUREC) has a wetland restoration projects in a 20-acre wetland, a 5-acre organic farm, 3-week summer field courses, and is a venue for faculty and student research in sustainable agriculture, ecology, and wetland restoration. Minimum Education and/or Work Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in related field and five years of related experience.
