The Department of Surgery is a clinical department within the School of Medicine with the attendant responsibility for medical education and research. The Chair of the department is also the Chief of Surgical services for the hospital. The department includes 36 full-time faculty members in the sections of: transplantation surgery, plastic surgery, pediatric surgery, surgical oncology, general and bariatric surgery, and trauma and acute care surgery. It also includes clinical and basic science research labs. The 70+ employees in the department support our clinical, education and research programs.
The Division of Trauma and Surgical Acute Care provides care at Vidant Medical Center’s level 1 trauma center, serving eastern North Carolina, an expansive geographic region consisting of 29 counties with a population of over 1.5 million people. Vidant Medical Center, a 909 bed tertiary care teaching facility, serves as the primary teaching and clinical care venue for an integrated nine hospital hub and spoke system.
The East Carolina University Department of Surgery and the Center of Excellence for Trauma and Surgical Critical Care is seeking applicants for an Emergency Medicine-trained Critical Care Intensivist to work in the Division of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery.
The successful candidate will join nine academic trauma and acute care surgery faculty to staff the Trauma Service, Surgical Critical Care team, and cover the SICU at Vidant Medical Center, an ACS verified level 1 University Trauma Center. Clinical research is available and encouraged. Teaching opportunities exist for medical students, surgical and emergency medicine residents, and surgical critical care and trauma fellows.
The position represents an excellent opportunity for an EM-CC candidate to participate in a more trauma, surgical and procedure-based employment model that allows for participation in surgical critical care, trauma call, and emergency medicine.
Fixed-term or tenure-track position available at the title/rank of Clinical Assistant Professor or higher.Minimum Education/Experience :
MD from an appropriately accredited institution required and full, unencumbered license to practice medicine in North Carolina.
Applicants should have completed an Emergency Medicine residency and a Critical Care Medicine fellowship and be either board certified or eligible in Critical Care Medicine.
