Organizational Unit Overview:East Carolina University’s Academic Library Services is seeking a collaborative, proactive, and visionary librarian to lead Research and Instructional Services in providing outstanding service to ECU students, faculty, staff, and citizens of Eastern North Carolina.
Job Duties :Reporting to the Assistant Director for Public Services, the Head of Research and Instructional Services will work with faculty and staff within the department, the library, and the university to plan, develop, and deliver a full range of traditional and innovative products and services. The successful candidate will coordinate the operations of a heavily used reference service point, supervise 6 FTE librarians and 4 FTE staff members, lead the department in providing effective instruction, support distance education, and facilitate the use of emerging technologies to expand services. The individual will undertake regular instructional and reference duties. As a member of the library’s management team, the Head of Research and Instructional Services helps guide the organization in achieving its mission.

Minimum Education/Experience :•Master’s degree in library or information science from an ALA-accredited institution or international equivalent;
•three or more years of recent, progressively responsible library reference and instructional experience;
•expertise with traditional and electronic reference materials;
•outstanding leadership and communication skills;
•demonstrated flexibility in adapting to change;
•strong commitment to public service;
•supervisory experience;
•familiarity with current trends in scholarly communication;
•demonstrated ability to collaborate with other departments on campus;
•demonstrated ability to set priorities, and to develop, plan, and implement programs.

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education :•An additional graduate degree;
•experience in an academic library of comparable size;
•knowledge of current trends in information management and the use of technology,
•experience with delivering research and instructional services in a distance education environment.
Finalists will be asked to make a brief presentation during the interview.
