Responsibilities The Veteran & Career Activities Assistant provides general supervision of the Veteran’s Lounge and career preparation services and activities for all students.

    General Office Administration: Answer phones, Filing, email correspondence, and scheduling in the Veteran & Adult Learner’s CenterGeneral Office Supervision: Serve as a secondary point of contact for students & guests seeking other services within the Student Activities CenterGreet students and visitors and verify personal information by checking identificationsFollow up to ensure student issues are resolvedCommunicate with area employers to arrange on-campus recruiting events & activitiesArrange scheduled time to meet with students related to their career goals Assist with resume writing, interviewing techniques, and job searchesCollaborate with all areas across campus, including academic schools to provide career resources for all students & support services for VA and Adult LearnersCoordinate semester activities for Veterans and Adult LearnersServe as a member of the AMSC VA Certifying Official team Additional Duties as assigned related to Veterans Students, Student Life & Leadership, Adult Learners and Career Preparation

*** Hours: This position will work 19.5 hours per week between the hours of 8:30am – 6:00pm (Mon-Thurs), & 8:30am – 12:30pm (Fri). Some weekend hours may be required.

Required Qualifications High School Diploma or GED

Excellent organizational skills and interpersonal communication skills. Candidates with a background in student services, adult learning and/or Veterans Affairs are strongly encouraged to apply.

    Strong oral and written communication and listening skills.
  • Strong customer service approach when working with both internal and external customers.
  • Knowledge of computerized record keeping and document imaging systems
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, Banner, TES, etc.Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with others.Communicate information clearly and concisely in person and/or on the telephone, exercising tact, patience, discretion and professional demeanor.Establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships, interacting in a supportive manner with faculty, staff, students and visitors;Detail orientated, handle multiple tasks, prioritize accordingly and meet strict deadlines.Work independently and as part of a team.Reports to work punctually and follow a work schedule to keep up with the demands of the worksite. Ability to handle a large variety of details and to work with all levels of organization.Ability to handle sensitive and extensive confidential data.Excellent customer service skills and interpersonal skills. Excellent oral and written communication skills.Proficiency with use of e-mail, word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software and use of the Internet.
