Hospitalist Faculty Positon (s) 

 

The Department of Medicine at the Medical College of Georgia, Augusta University is seeking full time Hospitalists that will provide inpatient care from admission through discharge for patients admitted to Augusta University Health. Patients will be returned to their primary care physician at the time of discharge.

 

Responsibilities:

1.  Physician will engage in full time attendance during their required shift to patients admitted from referring AU Health physicians, emergency room and/or consultative patient care within the hospital setting.

2.  Refers patients to specialists and to relevant patient care components as appropriate in coordination with PCP identified by patient as deemed appropriate.

3.  Directs and coordinates the patient care activities of nursing and support staff as required.

4.  Prescribes pharmaceuticals, other medications, and treatment regimens as appropriate to assessed medical conditions.

5.  Must comply with all Medicare and Medicaid guidelines and must maintain eligibility in both programs.

6.  As appropriate to the position, participates in specified health promotion, education and/or prevention programs, and serves on hospital committees.

7. Follows established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives, continuous quality improvement objectives, and safety, environmental, and/or infection control standards.

8.  Will attend daily multidisciplinary rounds.

9.  Will respond to Rapid Response Team and Code Blue Calls during their shift to support in-house staff.

 10.  Will be available to meet with patient’s family members upon request and will update patient’s family and the appropriate PCP regularly regarding the patient’s progress.

11.    Will complete all pertinent dictation and charting including signing orders and notes in a timely fashion (within 24 hours or less).

12.    Will write daily progress notes on each patient on service.

13.    Will  ensure  quality  care  and  strive  toward  meeting  quality  metrics  as outlined by the Department of Medicine.

14.    Will follow AU Health reporting relationships.

15.    Will be accountable for other responsibilities as reasonably assigned from time to time by the Division Chief, Hospital Medicine.

Skills and Knowledge:

1.    Ability to deliver effective medical care within an in-patient environment.

2.    Knowledge of legal and ethical standards for the delivery of medical care.

3.    Knowledge of relevant drugs and non-pharmaceutical patient care aids and ability to prescribe dosages and instruct patients in correct usage.

4.    Ability to maintain quality, safety, and/or infection control standards.

5.    Knowledge of related accreditation and certification requirements.

6.    Knowledge of community medical diagnostic and patient care services in area of medical expertise.

7.    Knowledge of current principles, methods and procedures for the delivery of medical evaluation, diagnosis and treatment in area of expertise.

8.    Effective verbal and written communication skills.

9.     Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.

10.     Understanding and willingness to be involved in corporate compliance.

11.     Proficiency in maintaining reasonable and appropriate HCAP scores.

12.     Ability to develop and present educational programs and/or workshops, if desired.

Position Details:

Yearly guaranteed salary is competitive and negotiable. Robust benefit package to include medical, dental, reimbursement for CME and dues/subscriptions.

   

Minimum Requirements

         

Qualifications:

1.  Must be either (i) board certified and maintain board certification in Internal Medicine by the AOBIM/ABIM or (ii) board eligible, actively pursue board certification, and become board certified in Internal Medicine by the AOBIM/ABIM within five (5) years of completion of last training.

2.  BLS and ACLS certified.

3.  Will be a member in good standing of the medical staff at each hospital at which the practice provides services.

4.  Will maintain a valid license to practice medicine in the state of Georgia.

5.   Must maintain malpractice coverage provided by the state of Georgia.

6.  Must perform medical examinations, evaluations, assessments, diagnosis, and treatment to hospital inpatients assigned through both direct admission and ER referral.

7. Will complete all credentialing paperwork in a timely manner in order to maintain eligibility to participate with all insurances that pertain to patients of each hospital at which Hospitalist provides services.

8.  Will remain current, reading pertinent medical journals and attending CME Conferences annually to fulfill state of Georgia licensing requirements.

The final candidate will be required to provide proof of completed academic degree(s) as well as post-secondary coursework in the form of original transcript(s). Those candidates trained by a foreign institution will also be required to provide an educational/credential evaluation.
