Associate Vice President of Student Success
The Associate Vice President for Student Success reports to and works closely with the Vice President. The Associate Vice President provides strategic leadership, administrative oversight, and the planning and designing of programs, services and initiatives that support students and meet the needs of various communities. The primary goal of the duties will result in ensuring the academic achievement of the diverse students served by OMA&D.
As an integral member of the Vice President’s executive team, the Associate Vice President is involved in long-term planning of the office and determining new strategies and initiatives to move forward the office’s and university’s student retention; and diversity, equity, and inclusion agendas. The position requires a high degree of independent judgment and discretionary authority that will have consequences beyond the immediate unit. This appointee is expected to act on behalf of the Vice President in many areas.
• Supervise lead staff in the following units/areas: Educational Opportunity Program, TRIO Student Support Services; College Assistance Migrant Program, Champions, Early Identification Program, TRIO McNair Scholars, Instructional Center, Health Sciences Center Minority Student Program, Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation in STEM (LSAMP), the Samuel E. Kelly Ethnic Cultural Center, and collaborate with the Intellectual House (American Indian student support) staff.
• Serve as initial point of contact for student issues that come to OMA&D.
• Manage and provide oversight of the Student Success budgets.
• Provide leadership for the development of OMA&D study abroad and international initiatives.
• Manage the grant submission and post award process for OMA&D.
• Administer and provide oversight for OMA&D scholarship awards.
• Work with the Vice President to establish and nurture partnerships with Student Life, Undergraduate Academic Affairs, faculty, academic and administrative units to implement effective strategies for advancing the academic development and success of diverse students.
• Work with the Vice President and OMA&D Advancement team to identify development and fundraising opportunities in support of student success efforts.
• Serve as a representative of the Vice President on committees, at meetings and at other functions when appropriate.
• Other duties as assigned.
• Master's Degree in Education, Ethnic Studies, Psychology, Social Work and a minimum of six (6) years supervising and developing professional staff.
• Demonstrated experience working effectively with and across diverse communities, including specific experience with American Indian; underrepresented minorities; first generation; low-income; undocumented; and students previously in foster care.
• Minimum of three (3) years managing complex budgets and accountability systems.
• Successful experience writing and managing federal grants.
• Demonstrated experience managing programs.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively and tactfully with all constituencies across the university and levels of university administration
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
