Position Summary:

This position is shared between the Bread Loaf Campus and the Middlebury Main Campus and performs essential custodial tasks, maintains flooring, prepares rooms for guests and completes event setups using R25 Events report and provided diagrams. Approximate annual calendar is April through November at Bread Loaf and December through March at Middlebury’s main campus.

Essential Functions:

• Cleans and disinfects bathrooms and kitchens; restocks supplies.
• Vacuums, dust mops and wet mops floors, and spot washes walls. Dusts or vacuums furniture.
• Arranges and cleans classroom furniture, cleans chalkboards & whiteboards, restocks chalk,
• markers and erasers.
• Cleans entrances and elevators. Sweeps outside steps and picks up litter around the outside perimeter buildings.
• Collects and removes all trash, recycling, and compost; ensures that spaces are outfitted with appropriate bins with signage to encourage effective sorting.
• Supports the College’s Recycling program.
• Arranges furniture in social spaces/lounges.
• Spray-buffs the floors on a routine cycle and periodically scrubs, strips, and applies coats of seal/finish to floors. Shampoos floors on a routine cycle.
• Operates and maintains equipment such as steam machines, pressure washers, autoscrubbers, buffers, wet vacs, sweepers and shampooers.
• Prepares daily work order log.
• Assists in major cleanup following parties, events and/or in emergency situations.
• Performs any open Facilities related job when coverage for department absenteeism warrants.

General Responsibilities:

• Helps with special projects and event setups.
• Moves large quantities of furniture at certain times of year within buildings and also from building to building.
• Washes windows.
• Interacts appropriately with the customer.
• Identifies damage and missing items from buildings and reports such to supervisor.
• Responsible for cleaning up any blood spills/accidents using proper procedures.
• Delivers supplies to various locations and restocks custodial closets.
• Keeps simple records and makes simple reports.
• Works cooperatively with others and accepts direction from team liaison and supervisors.
• Performs other duties as assigned to assist the department in obtaining and maintaining its mission.
• Assists with snow removal.
• Performs all duties in a safe and professional manner and in accordance with established departmental practices and procedures.
• Changes light bulbs.

Education:

No formal education or training required; high school education preferred; on-the-job training provided.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Knowledge of cleaning techniques, products, and equipment.
• Ability to perform manual tasks requiring moderate physical strength and to follow oral and written instructions.
• Ability to establish and maintain working relations with supervisors, fellow workers, students, and the rest of College staff.
• Ability to follow a schedule.
• Must be able to work overtime and on weekends as required; when at Bread Loaf working weekends as part of a rotation is required.
• Good attendance very important.
• Must be able to work independently.
• Must have the ability to lift up to 100 lbs. occasionally. Ability to push and pull up to 100lbs. frequently, and lift up to 50 lbs. frequently. Able to walk and climb stairs frequently. Must be able to carry supplies and equipment up and down stairs.
• Must have valid driver’s license and good driving record.
• Ability to obtain College driver’s license.

Experience:

• Custodial and floor care experience preferred.
