Eastern Washington University invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Lecturer in the Department of Fine and Performing Arts, to begin September 2021. We seek an outstanding teacher/artist/practitioner to support the Design, Technology, and Management (DTM) curriculum of a dynamic, forward-looking Theatre program.
Teaching responsibilities include Stagecraft, Scenic/Lighting Design, General Education courses in Theatre, and other coursework as assigned according to candidate expertise and program need. Candidates must demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching within an inclusive environment of creative inquiry and collaboration in a student-focused, generalist theatre program. Commitment to fostering a safe and effective educational environment for undergraduate students is essential.
The successful candidate will have production experience in both academic and professional settings. Position responsibilities include providing scenic design, lighting design and technical direction for Eastern’s Public Performance Program (currently three mainstage productions per academic year). This position will supervise and carry out all aspects of technical theatre production and facility management for the University Theatre and supervise student workers in the scene shop.
Other duties may include consulting on senior projects, collaborating to develop innovative curriculum and assessment strategies, mentorship to students in theatrical design, technology, and management (DTM), and facilitating professional internships.
Additionally, all faculty are expected to actively participate in assessment of student learning and to engage in effective teaching.

Lifting, climbing, reaching, crawling. Ability to safely operate carpentry equipment and manual tools. Candidates must be able to repeatedly lift 50 lbs. and be comfortable working at heights (ladders, genie lifts, catwalks, and truss).

- M.F.A. or PhD in scenic design, lighting design, technical direction or related discipline;
- Evidence of excellence in teaching theatre design, technology, and management topics on the undergraduate level;
- Evidence of excellence in scenic design and/or lighting design and realization; and
- Evidence of ability to work effectively with students, colleagues, and collaborators of diverse backgrounds.
Additionally, candidates must demonstrate interest, experience and/or ability to promote cultural competency and/or diversity.Preferred Qualifications:
Preference may be given to candidates who offer one or more of the following preferred qualifications:
- Demonstrated achievement in professional stagecraft;
- Demonstrated excellence in lighting design and scenic painting;
- Demonstrated achievement in projection design, image mapping, and associated engineering;
- Demonstrated achievement at the university and professional levels in cross-disciplinary collaboration;
- Demonstrated achievement in and commitment to site-specific performance, mediated / livestreamed performance, theatre for social change, and designing for and managing production tours.

100Responsibility / Duty:
Teaching: typical workload for this position will involve a combination of teaching courses in theatrical design and other courses based on department need and the expertise of the candidate hired into the position, plus administrative release time to fulfill scenic/lighting design and technical direction responsibilities for the public performance program. Courses and release time will be 45 credits equivalent for each academic year.
Teaching includes the following additional related responsibilities as defined in the faculty CBA:
- Meet all scheduled classes
- Plan, organize and inform students of the course content, texts, readings, assignments, attendance regulations and methods of evaluation including grading scales
- Schedule and attend office hours
- Turn in grades according to established deadlines
Additionally, all faculty are expected to engage in effective teaching and assessment of student learning.
