An understanding of research and healthcare and the strategic role of communications to advance research and care is also vital in this position. As a manager, it is also essential that the Director champion employee engagement and foster staff growth and professional development.

The Director of Communications and Outreach oversees all communications and outreach efforts for both the University of Pennsylvania Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center (ADRC) and the Penn Memory Center (PMC). The Director oversees the management and production of all communications activities to assure they advance the dual missions of excellence in Alzheimer’s disease clinical care and research that spans basic science, clinical translation, and policy. Activities to achieve this include but are not limited to the annual InSight Magazine (print), the monthly Aging Brain Cohort newsletter, the weekly InSight news report, and websites related to PMC (pennmemorycenter.org), the ADRC (med.upenn.edu/adcc), affiliated communications projects such as whealthcare.org and makingsenseofalzheimers.org, and social media. In addition to the editorial role, this position manages key relationships with colleagues across Penn Medicine (including faculty in the departments of medicine (division of geriatrics), neurology and psychiatry), the University of Pennsylvania, ADRC colleagues across the nation (including the NIA ADEAR Center and the Alzheimer’s Associations’ regional and national chapters), and residents of the Delaware Valley region and the Greater Philadelphia area with a primary focus on Philadelphia’s Black community.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree and 5-7 years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience required.
