Position Summary:Operating 10, 12 m passive mist nets (4 days/wk), point-counts (1-2 days/wk), target netting warblers (1-2 days/wk), re-sighting color banded warblers, color banding target species, assisting graduate students with projects, and significant data entry.
Field days will often begin before dawn. Work begins mid to late April and lasts until mid-July. Shared housing and a salary of $10.25/hour will be provided.
Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification in Position:Experience banding, mist net extraction, taking morphometric measurements, and collecting feather samples of small songbirds is required. An interest in avian ecology is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies :Experience training new banders will make candidates very competitive.
Good color vision is needed, and ability to identify eastern birds by sight and sound.
Position also necessitates attention to detail, self-motivation, and a positive attitude.
We are looking for someone who can be independent when needed but are able to work and live closely with co-workers.
Hiking very dense and rugged terrain, sometimes carrying up to 25 lbs.
Working long days in the field.
Working alone in rugged terrain and variable weather conditions.
