University IT (UIT), part of the Business Affairs organization at Stanford University, is dedicated to delivering world-class service and technological solutions to advance research, teaching and learning, administration, and healthcare. UIT is embarking on a long-term strategy to plan, replace and implement new cloud-based solutions for several enterprise-wide systems. The UIT Project Management Office within UIT seeks an experienced Project Manager to lead and manage transformational initiatives to replace Stanford University’s legacy HR system. This involves managing the projects undertaken to replace existing HR systems in a manner that ensures alignment with the university’s strategic objectives. The Project Manager champions the business and technical planning and conceptual efforts for this mission critical initiative. This initiative will be jointly sponsored by University HR and University IT with advice from HR Technology Council. The Project Manager is expected to lead and support Phase 1 activities to inform the planning and decision process including managing the RFI/RFP process, contract/pricing evaluation processes, as well as budgeting and implementation planning. This also includes the development and implementation of business process improvement and organizational change management strategies. Upon final selection of a cloud-based Human Resources/Human Capital Management (HR/HCM) solution, the role of the Project Manager is to ensure the full project lifecycle (initiating, planning, executing, monitoring and controlling, closing) is successfully managed to meet business objectives and client satisfaction. The ideal candidate has a successful track record of delivering enterprise-wide cloud solutions for HR/HCM solutions in a research university setting. Desired experience includes a proven track record of motivating a diverse team, partnering effectively with executive-level sponsors and decision-makers, and identifying and efficiently managing project risks, while successfully managing projects to timely delivery and within budgetary expectations. CORE DUTIES:- Perform the full range of project management cycle: initiating, planning, executing, monitoring and controlling, and closing.
- Independently lead and direct projects requiring high levels of functional/technical integration and involving multiple disciplines to be managed.
- Originate project charter defining/shaping the project’s scope, goals/objectives, solution approach, system integration and impact to other systems, project team organization, roles/responsibilities, risks and assumption, project financials.
- Develop an action plan and estimate requirements for resources, including management, labor, materials, and time required to complete the project.
- Create and implement project plans and work breakdown structures aligned with business and technical plans and directions; revise as appropriate to meet changing needs and requirements.
- Manage stakeholder engagement (including executive committee level) that may be affected by changes to business processes, policies and procedures related to the implementation of an enterprise-wide HR/HCM system.
- Facilitate discussions and negotiations that require consideration of wide influences to drive recommendation consensus.
- Create and help execute comprehensive organizational change management strategy and communication plan relative to project/portfolio scope and stakeholders; orchestrate and lead organizational change management methodologies underlying project success.
- Create, manage and monitor the estimated project budget.
- Prepare and submit project documentation such as client proposals, progress reports, or other contractual requirements.
- Evaluate and assess metrics and project/program effectiveness, assess and proactively monitor and control risks, progress and trends impacting successful project/program delivery.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Experience managing implementation of HR/HCM cloud-based solutions or other enterprise-wide SaaS platforms, including managing consulting partner relationships.
- Experienced in a complex, decentralized higher education or non-profit environment.
- Strongly oriented toward collaboration with and through others, at all levels in the organization.
- Experience leading and applying Agile (or hybrid Agile) implementation methodology
- Leads with an innovative and continuous improvement mindset; strong business acumen and ability to adapt, improvise and innovate to drive solutions.
- Preferred: Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
- Frequently sit, perform desk based computer tasks, and grasp lightly/fine manipulation and lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.
- Occasionally stand/walk, write by hand.
- Rarely use a telephone, kneel, crawl, climb ladders, twist/bend/stoop/squat, reach/work above shoulder, grasp forcefully.
- Occasionally work evenings and weekends.

- Redwood City. Our new Stanford Redwood City campus, opened in 2019, will be the workplace for approximately 2,700 staff, including University IT, whose jobs are important to supporting the University’s mission.
