Job Summary:
Eastern Washington University (EWU) and the Department of Occupational Therapy invite applications from qualified occupational therapists to serve as a full-time Lecturer. Preferable start date will begin August 16, 2021. This would be for a standard 9-month core faculty appointment; the academic calendar typically runs from mid-August to mid-May. There may also be opportunities for supplemental summer teaching in anatomy and/or biomechanics. The department is housed in the College of Health Science based on the EWU Spokane campus. The college and department prepare students to help meet the growing market demand in the critical fields of health care and education. The College of Health Science is home to several nationally accredited undergraduate and graduate programs with an increased focus on inter-professional education (IPE).

The full-time Lecturer position will carry a 100% teaching as outlined in the University Collective Bargaining Agreement. Current teaching needs are in the areas of physical dysfunction, geriatrics, mental health, program development, leadership, and/or health and wellness.

Faculty are expected to engage in effective teaching and assessment of student learning. Additionally, the candidate selected for this position may be expected to teach face-to-face classes, hybrid or blended classes and/or online classes according to the needs of the department.

Required Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy (MOT or MSOT)
  • Established record clinical experience in at least one of the following areas:
    1. Pediatrics
    2. Assistive Technology
    3. Physical Disabilities
    4. Neurological Disorders
  • Eligible for Washington state Occupational Therapy licensure
  • Evidence of ability to engage in productive, respectful, collegial relationships with students, faculty and staff
  • Demonstrate interest, ability and/or experience promoting cultural competency, universal accessibility, and/or diversity.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • OTD or DrOT
  • Evidence of strong potential, of successful teaching of graduate students
  • Desire and ability to promote and support cultural competence
  • Readiness to work closely with students and faculty colleagues in community engagement and service-learning initiatives

Responsibility / Duty:
The Lecturer position will carry a full-time teaching load of 30 contact hours per year. Current teaching needs are in the areas of physical dysfunction, geriatrics, mental health, program development, leadership, and/ or health and wellness. Additionally, all faculty are expected to actively participate in assessment of student learning and to engage in effective teaching.

Teaching includes the following additional related responsibilities as defined in the faculty CBA:
  • Teach graduate courses consistent with expertise and program/departmental instructional needs
  • Potential clinical supervision in area(s) of expertise
  • Mentor student research
  • Provide service to the department, college, university as well as the discipline of Occupational Therapy

Conditions of Employment:
This position, during the course of university employment will be involved in the receipt of, or accountability for, university fund or other items of value, as well as the unsupervised access with the developmentally disabled, vulnerable adults or children under the age of 16. Employment will be contingent upon successful completion and passing of a background check prior to the position’s start date.

Note: Interviews will be conducted via Zoom (camera must be enabled). While we anticipate being open for in-person instruction for academic year 2021-22, should Washington State or university pandemic restrictions disallow for in-person instruction, then courses will be taught via online platforms, including Zoom and other technologies. Candidates must be able to demonstrate competence using these technologies.

Salary Information: Minimum salary is $73,530; hiring salary will be dependent on experience and qualifications.
