Position Description:
The University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) is seeking a highly motivated and creative physical scientist with expertise in landscape modeling and/or aeolian processes. The selected candidate will work with the PI to implement and parameterize a process-based model of aeolian transport and landscape evolution. The selected candidate will develop and implement parameterizations for sediment movement under various air flow regimes and parameterizations for aerodynamic flow over uneven surface and around roughness elements. The model will be implemented in a GPU environment to allow massively parallel computing of large landscapes. Preference will be given to candidates who have demonstrated creative approaches to landscape evolution and/or modeling of aeolian systems and who have proven expertise in geomorphology/ecogeomorphic systems. The successful candidate should have strong quantitative skills, proficiency in standard programming languages (C++, Python, Matlab), excellent written and oral communication skills, and interest in publication of the results of the research.
