Job Summary:
The Doctor of Physical Therapy Program at Eastern Washington University invites applications for a full-time, 9-month tenure-track faculty appointment at the Assistant or Associate professor level to begin August 2021.

Position responsibilities include teaching, student advising, scholarship, and service to the university/community/profession. Qualified candidates with all areas of expertise are encouraged to apply. Candidates with expertise in musculoskeletal or acute care physical therapy are preferred.

The DPT Program is located at EWU-Spokane, a primarily health sciences campus with state-of-the-art space and facilities. The campus sits next to downtown Spokane, and is within walking distance to trails along the Spokane River. Spokane is the heart of the Inland Northwest, with excellent restaurants, theaters, shopping, skiing, hiking, lakes, and high-quality schools and affordable housing. The Spokane campus is a satellite of EWU's main campus in Cheney, WA.

The DPT Program is 2 years 9 months in length, has 9 full-time faculty members, and admits 38 students each fall. Opportunities for summer teaching may be available.

Faculty are expected to engage in effective teaching and assessment of student learning. Additionally, the candidate selected for this position may be expected to teach face-to-face classes, hybrid or blended classes and/or online classes according to the needs of the department.

Required Qualifications:
  • State of Washington PT license or eligible
  • 3 years clinical practice experience as a physical therapist
  • Academic doctoral degree (e.g., PhD, ScD, EdD) *preferred;
    candidates with both a DPT and clinical specialization will be considered
    • ABD considered but must be completed by start date
  • Proficient in use of classroom technology
  • Strong communication and organization skills
  • Candidate must demonstrate interest, ability and/or experience promoting cultural competency, universal accessibility, and/or diversity.

Preferred Qualifications:
Additional consideration may be given to candidates with one or more of the following:
  • Academic doctoral degree (PhD, ScD, EdD)
  • Expertise in Musculoskeletal Physical Therapy
  • Expertise in Acute Care Physical Therapy
  • 5 years clinical practice experience as a physical therapist
  • Higher education teaching experience
  • Established record of scholarship (publications, national presentations, grant funding)
  • Current membership in the American Physical Therapy Association
  • Current active service to the physical therapy profession

Responsibility / Duty:
  • Teach in Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) Program curriculum within area of expertise and to support department needs
  • Conduct research or scholarship activities that contribute to departmental publications, presentations and/or external funding
  • Provide service to the department, college, university, community, and profession of physical therapy
  • Serve as an advisor to a small group of DPT students from each academic cohort

A Faculty Activity Plan will be developed by the end of the first semester of the selected candidate’s appointment, and will consist of a combination of teaching, research, service and/or release time to perform administrative duties, as negotiated and as needed to meet the business needs of the department.

Additionally, All faculty are expected to engage in effective teaching and in assessment of student learning outcomes.

Conditions of Employment:
This position, during the course of university employment will be involved in the receipt of, or accountability for, university funds or other items of value, as well as the unsupervised access with the developmentally disabled, vulnerable adults or children under the age of 16. Successful candidate will be required to pass a background check prior to beginning employment and show proof of eligibility to work in the U.S. pursuant to U.S. immigration laws.

Note: Interviews will be conducted via Zoom (camera must be enabled). While we anticipate being open for in-person instruction for academic year 2021-22, should Washington State or university pandemic restrictions disallow for in-person instruction, then courses will be taught via online platforms, including Zoom and other technologies. Candidates must be able to demonstrate competence using these technologies.

Salary Information: Minimum salary is $73,873; hiring salary will be dependent on experience and qualifications.
