Job Summary
Under supervision of leadership, responsible for providing academic/educational support services within a tiered system of intervention strategies that will help students identify, plan for, and overcome potential obstacles, while defining steps in education and career planning. Collaborate with school faculty and staff, and work with parents/guardians to assist students in reaching an ultimate goal, ensuring the opportunity to graduate from high school and post-secondary education.

1.Teaches study skills, homework skills, and learning strategies to students

2.Provides direct academic instruction, one-on-one or small groups or 2-3 students

3.Provides coaching and advising to students on academic concerns, policies, procedures,fiscal responsibilities and life skills

4.Develops and presents workshops, and career and/college readiness skills

5.Builds relationships and collaborates with students, teachers and staff to develop anindividualized tutoring plan with each student, monitoring and reporting on progress toward identified goals

6.Participates and provides supervision in all recreational and cultural activities on and offcampus including during/after-school and weekends

Required Qualifications

College junior classification required from an accredited institution of higher education in Post-Secondary Education


One (1) year of tutoring experience in area of subject competency (math, science, English, foreign language, etc.) One (1) year experience with academic support programs, or similar programs for disadvantaged high school students

Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education preferred

Experience with planning, organizing, and implementing tutoring plans

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Able to work autonomously and in team settings

  • Able to work after school hours and possibly during school hours and weekends

  • Able to handle multiple tasks or projects at one time meeting assigned deadlines

  • Excellent interpersonal, initiative, teamwork, problem solving, organization, communication(verbal and written), time management, project management and presentation skills

  • Proficient with computer applications and programs associated with the position (i.e.Microsoft Office suite)

  • Strong attention to detail and follow up skills

  • Strong customer service skills and phone and e-mail etiquette
