Department Information
The Department of Ecology, Evolution and Organismal Biology serves over 2,000 undergraduate majors earning the Bachelor of Science degree in biology, and over 100 majors in environmental science. Graduate students in the Master of Science in Integrative Biology follow a two-year, research intensive, thesis-based program. Biological research programs in the College of Science and Mathematics span multiple areas, including Ecology and Environmental Science, Evolutionary Biology, Organismal Biology, Developmental Biology, Biomolecular Science, and Microbiology. Job Summary
The College of Science and Mathematics at Kennesaw State University invites applications for Chair of the Department of Ecology, Evolution, and Organismal Biology (EEOB), beginning July 1, 2021. The Chair is a member of the academic leadership team in the College of Science and Mathematics, and is expected to advocate for EEOB with an open, and participatory administrative style. The Chair's primary goal is to advance the mission and vision of the department, in the context of the strategic goals of the College of Science and Mathematics.

Primary responsibilities of the Chair, who reports to the Dean, include, but are not limited to:

    Promoting a work environment that is respectful, fair, caring, and inclusive for all faculty and staff Maintaining an extramurally funded research program in ecology and environmental science, evolutionary biology, organismal biology, or related/similar field; Recruitment of faculty and staff; Managing and developing faculty and staff; Managing department budget and resources; Supporting a transparent shared governance environment; Providing oversight of academic programs and developing new ones Advocating for the department with respect to the mission and expectations of the department, college and university;
  • Implementing a plan of the Department's role in strengthening KSU as an R2 research institution.

Required Qualifications
The successful candidate must possess:
  • An earned doctorate (or equivalent) in Organismal Biology (or closely related field), and
  • A distinguished record that merits appointment as a full professor with tenure in the department of Ecology, Evolution and Organismal Biology.

Preferred Qualifications
    Evidence of effective leadership, exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, and an ability to work with faculty, staff, and students from diverse backgrounds; A record of scholarship that includes peer-reviewed publications and extramural funding;
  • Record of excellence in teaching, reflective of current and best practices;
  • A demonstrated commitment to promoting inclusive excellence in teaching and research.
