The Department of Sociology in the Faculty of Arts and Science at the University of Toronto invites applications for a full-time teaching stream position in the area of Sociology. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2021.

Applicants must have earned a PhD in Sociology by the time of the appointment or shortly thereafter. We seek enthusiastic and innovative candidates whose teaching interests complement and strengthen our existing departmental strengths (http://sociology.utoronto.ca/). Candidates must have a demonstrable record of excellence in teaching at the undergraduate level in a degree granting program, including lecture preparation and delivery, curriculum development, and development of online material/lectures. Additionally, candidates must demonstrate intellectual curiosity and a commitment to pursue novel and innovative methods of thinking and teaching, pedagogical enquiry, and teaching innovations. Administrative, organizational, and mentoring skills required to teach large introductory courses in Sociology, a record of teaching-related scholarship, and the background and communication skills necessary to work collaboratively with all members of the Department, are considered assets.

Evidence of excellence in teaching and pedagogical enquiry can be demonstrated through teaching accomplishments, awards and accolades, presentations at significant conferences, the teaching dossier submitted as part of the application including a strong statement of teaching philosophy, sample course syllabi, course evaluations, selected course materials, and outstanding letters of reference from referees of high standing.

Responsibilities of the successful candidate will include undergraduate teaching, managing teaching assistants, creation of course materials, curriculum development, and service to the Department.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
