The Major Gifts Officer will have primary responsibilities to the School of Business Administration, reporting to Development with a dotted line reporting relationship to the Dean of the School of Business Administration. Focus is on helping the Business school reach fundraising goals by identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding major gifts.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage a portfolio of 80-100 donors and prospects who have the capacity to make gifts of $25,000 or more, with emphasis on gifts of $100,000+
  • Collaborate with Development colleagues and Dean of the School of Business Administration on a strategic fundraising plan and identify, cultivate, solicit, close and steward major gift prospects and donors
  • Prepare written proposals, gift agreements and other materials needed to define, secure and document major gifts
  • Develop compelling donor engagement strategies and visit extensively with prospects and donors
  • Build a portfolio of fundraising prospects and strategically manage relationships through face-to-face visits and other meaningful interactions to bring solicitations to closure
  • Work effectively with members of the Development and Alumni Engagement team, including Prospect Research, to develop and cultivate a prospects pipeline as part of the organization’s evolving fundraising strategy
  • Serve as an advisor to Development colleagues and faculty on fundraising programs, providing faculty with guidance in editing and reviewing proposals
  • Effectively involve stakeholders, such as volunteers, staff, and members of the School of Business Administration Advisory Board, in supporting the fundraising program
  • Work after hours for events when needed
  • Perform other position-specific functions as assigned
  • This position requires significant travel by automobile; an acceptable driving record that meets insurance requirements and an active Florida driver license must be maintained in order to meet this function

ROUTINE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Secure in-person and virtual visits with prospects and donors
  • Attend alumni and donor events with prospects and donors
  • Effectively utilize Raisers Edge NXT and follow policies and procedures to maintain records of contacts with prospects and donors; analyze research materials to target appropriate prospects; track the status of all solicitation opportunities; consistently monitor and report status of all prospects with respect to the moves management system; and record contact reports in a timely fashion
  • Work collaboratively with faculty, deans and administration toward Development goals
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with college administration and faculty through regular, consistent and relevant communication

Minimum Education:

  • Master's degree in appropriate area of specialization and three years of appropriate experience in Development or a related field; OR
  • Bachelor's degree in appropriate areas of specialization and five years of experience in Development or a related field

Required Experience
  • Master's degree in appropriate area of specialization and three years of appropriate experience in Development or a related field; or a bachelor's degree in appropriate areas of specialization and five years of experience in Development or a related field
  • Prior experience in a college or university setting preferred, with enthusiasm for fundraising in a university setting and the desire to work collegially within a goal-oriented fundraising organization; Three to five years of fundraising experience with proven success soliciting gifts or related experience strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated knowledge of fundraising principles, methods, and standards
  • Expertise in developing solicitation strategies
