Office of Information Technology has an opening for a full-time University Staff (unclassified) Application Administrator position.

Nature of Work

The Data Operations and Data Architecture Group of Office of Information Technology has an opening for an application administrator.  The position provides support of existing infrastructure as well as configuration, deployment, operation, analysis, reporting and administration of the University of Colorado Denver | Anschutz Medical Campus Oracle Identity Management infrastructure and the 4-Campus Identity Management infrastructure.

Jobs in this career family develop, maintain, and support computer systems, software and networks.  Functions include enterprise operations, distributed computing, academic computing, research computing, computer hardware and software management, computer networking, telecommunications, systems development, database administration, server administration, website management, programming, desktop support, and help desk operations.

Professionals at the intermediate level are responsible for exercising discretion, analytical skill, personal accountability and responsibility in a wide range of areas including academic, administrative, managerial and student services functions. Work involves creating, integrating, applying and sharing knowledge directly related to a professional field.  At the intermediate level, duties may be more limited in scope and are performed with guidance and direction from other professionals.

Supervision Received

This position is that of an independent worker and would receive assignments and direction during weekly interaction with the Data Operations and Data Architecture Program Manager.

Examples of Work Performed

  • Install and configure the Oracle Identity Management Suite of products
  • Administer and upgrade the Oracle Identity Management Suite of products including WebLogic and Oracle Virtual Directory
  • Administer and upgrade the Oracle Service Oriented (SOA) servers
  • Provide basic Oracle Database Administration (DBA) functions as a means of cross-coverage and scheduling conflicts
  • Provide Oracle Database Appliance (ODA) administration as a means of cross-coverage and scheduling conflicts
  • Assist with defining technical specifications for implementing and modifying load balancer use within the Data Operations and Data Architecture infrastructure
  • Maintain and enhance existing Oracle infrastructure and internal systems as identified by supervisor
  • Perform user design of Oracle-based systems in mockups, prototyping, implementation and deployment.  Steps would include wireframes, screen-flow diagrams and requirements documentation and user acceptance testing
  • Participate in full software life cycle; requirements gathering and customer interface, coordination with software architects and engineers in system design, implementation and testing, customer signoff, on-going support and maintenance
Salary and Benefits:

The salary range for this position has been established at $54,095 to $80,577 and is commensurate with skills and experience.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:

  • Completion of four years of college with a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college with major emphasis in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a closely related field is required.
  • At least 1 year working as a technical Application Administrator in technically complex, highly integrated, and redundant environments.
Substitution:

  • Work experience may be substituted for the educational experience on a year for year basis.
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of Oracle Database 11g or later
  • 3+ years full-time experience as a Technical Application Administrator
  • Successful working history in IT for Higher Education
  • Experience with Disaster Recovery planning and testing
  • Experience leading at least one full-lifecycle implementation, from hardware sizing through go-live and stabilization
  • Experience leading Application Administrator efforts for major upgrades
  • Experience leading Performance Testing and Tuning effort
  • Familiarity with protocols and industry standards such as LDAP, XML, WSDL, and SAML is highly desired
  • Operational information technology experience within a structured environment with increasing levels of responsibility and complexity
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Has knowledge of Oracle database systems
  • Has knowledge of Web Services including Service Oriented Architecture (SOA), Software as a Service (SAAS), Infrastructure as a Services (IAAS), Oracle SOA Suite (as part of Oracle Identity Suite)
  • Deployment and configuration knowledge with any J2EE application (preferably Oracle Identity Manager 11g servers in WebLogic application server)
  • Working knowledge in authentication standards like Active Directory and/or LDAP, Database Management systems including traditional relational database
  • Technical Application Administration skills (install, patch, upgrade, monitor, maintain, tune) for one or more (preferred) of the following applications:
  • WebLogic Server or Apache
  • Oracle Service Bus
  • Oracle Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) Suite
  • Oracle Virtual Directory (OVD)
  • Oracle Universal Directory (OUD)
  • MuleSoft
  • Exasol
  • Basic UNIX Administration (RHEL 6+)
  • Foundational understanding of key infrastructure areas (networking, SAN, security, etc.)
  • Good understanding of information technology system administration best practices
  • Understanding of change control processes
  • Comfortable working in a dynamic environment, where use of and building multiple skill sets concurrently is required
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective professional working relations with colleagues, associates, administrative staff members, faculty, and with personnel of external agencies and organizations
