Nature of WorkThe Education Technology Support Professional is a position in the Technology Support Services Division (TSS) of the Office of Information Technology (OIT) at the University of Colorado Denver | Anschutz Medical Campus.This position exists to manage servers, applications, workstations, and peripherals in support of teaching and learning activities. This position provides IT support to faculty, staff, and students in facilitation of educational activities on both campuses. This position is responsible for the design, installation, configuration, and ongoing support of classroom and lab computers, servers, and applications in support of academic activities on both campuses. This position is responsible for ensuring the successful integration of classroom computers with AV equipment and software. This position is also responsible for managing systems, devices, and applications for several departmental services, including Digital Signage, EMS Room Scheduling, and TSS Centralized File Server.Senior Professionals are responsible for exercising discretion, analytical skill, personal accountability and responsibility in a wide range of areas including academic, administrative, managerial and student services functions. Work involves creating, integrating, applying and sharing knowledge directly related to a professional field. Work is performed fully independently.Jobs in this career family develop, maintain, and support computer systems, software and networks. Functions include enterprise operations, distributed computing, academic computing, research computing, computer hardware and software management, computer networking, telecommunications, systems development, database administration, server administration, website management, programming, desktop support, and help desk operations.Supervision ReceivedThe Education Technology Support Professional position reports directly to the Education Technology Support Manager and receives broad and general supervision that is in alignment with the goals and objectives of the division as well as the OIT strategic plan. The responsibilities and assigned work are multifaceted, unstructured, and extremely technical. Supervision ExercisedThe Education Technology Support Professional position contains no direct supervisory responsibilities. - Fulfilling customer requests and resolving technical incidents generated in the Cherwell ticketing system within established time frames and SLOs.
- Working with other teams in TSS to implement AV software and equipment in teaching and learning spaces on campus.
- Supporting the daily operation of all PCs and peripherals in classrooms on both campuses and working to identify opportunities to streamline maintenance procedures through automation of recurring tasks. This includes using tools and applications including Group Policy and SCCM to streamline routine tasks and efficiently implement changes on a large scale.
- Managing users, computers, and security groups for the TSS OU in the UCDENVER domain.
- Using the MDT server to design and deploy computer images for classroom computers and TSS staff computers.
- Managing key systems and applications in support of academic activities, including Deep Freeze, PaperCut, and CoursEval.
- Providing systems administration support for the EMS Room Scheduling System and Video Bridge (virtual) servers. Apart from regular maintenance of servers, this work involves planning, testing, and implementing upgrades and system-wide changes in collaboration with the EMS and Bridge teams.
- Managing and supporting Digital Signage servers (Virtual and Cloud-Based), devices, and applications. This also includes assisting with content design and management as needed.
- Updating and maintaining SQL database in support of EMS Room Scheduling system.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Education, Information Systems or a closely related field
- 2+ years’ progressively responsible experience providing IT support in an enterprise environment.
- Substitution: 4 years of professional or high-level technical experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree.
- Experience working in a higher education setting.
- Experience in IT support in a classroom or other enterprise setting.
- Experience using Active Directory and Group Policy to manage users, computers and groups.
- Experience managing computer groups and administering large-scale changes with SCCM or other enterprise management tools.
- Experience managing both physical and virtual servers.
- Experience with SQL database administration.
- Must be self-motivated, self-managed, and able to adjust priorities in response to rapidly changing conditions based on customer and campus needs.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate and work as part of a team.
- Must be able to manage conflict and high-stakes interactions and remain positive and productive.
- Must demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate both with non-technical and technical audiences and stakeholder groups.
- Demonstrated proficiency in IT Support, including the ability to analyze and troubleshoot complex technical issues.
