Augusta University is one of the four research universities in the University System of Georgia, and the state’s only public academic medical center. The current total student enrollment for Augusta University is approximately 9,274, including a sizeable number of international students from more than 80 countries. Of the more than 5,600 students who comprise the University’s undergraduate student body, approximately 12 percent are first-generation students, 40 percent are Pell-eligible, and 47 percent are students of color. Host to ten colleges and schools, there are also several centers, institutes and departments at Augusta University with whom Psychological Sciences faculty collaborate. Among these are the Medical College of Georgia, the Georgia Cancer Center, the College of Nursing, the College of Allied Health, the Department of Population Health Sciences, and the Institute of Public and Preventive Health. Augusta is also becoming one of the nation’s foremost centers of cyber security, with Augusta University’s School of Computer and Cyber Sciences fulfilling a key role in educating students and conducting research. Indeed, several faculty in our department engage in research collaborations with one or more of these entities, and the number of collaborative opportunities within Augusta University is rapidly increasing.

Situated on the southern banks of the Savannah River, Augusta is Georgia’s second-oldest and second-largest city. Augusta is a vibrant, progressive, and diverse community built on a solid foundation of local pride. Affectionately known as the Garden City, Augusta is noted for Southern hospitality and eclectic offerings in culture, food, entertainment, sports, and a temperate climate which allows for year-round outdoor activities. These features, coupled with the area’s low cost of living, make Augusta the city of choice for more than half a million people in the metropolitan area. Most notably, Augusta is world-renowned as home to the prestigious Masters Tournament, the birthplace of Soul icon James Brown and close neighbor of Fort Gordon, home of the United States Army Cyber Command and NSA Georgia.
