Salary is commensurate with training and experience. This is a grant-funded position. Continued employment is contingent 

upon performance and funding. Benefits include group hospitalization and life insurance, State Employees Retirement;

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Extension Specialist for the Farm and Ranch Stress Assistance Network (FRSAN) grant is responsible to the Assistant Dean for the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) and receives direction from the grant’s Principle Investigator (PI). This specialist provides leadership as program coordinator for planning, coordinating, developing, implementing, and evaluating the FRSAN program to focus on the promotion of mental health of farmers through the delivery of community-based interventions. This is a non­tenure accruing position. Continuation of this grant-funded appointment is contingent upon continued funding through the National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) within the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). 

 

Duties

  • Provide leadership for a program of activities which meets the needs of all eligible clientele regardless of race, color, national origin, age, sex, disability, religion or veteran status.
  • Develop and coordinate efforts to address farm and ranch stress as part of a 13-state network in the southern United States.
  • Provide leadership for coordination with local and state Extension staff to meet the goals of the grant workplan to:
  • Develop and activate a comprehensive branding strategy
  • Oversee the development of a website that will house an e-learning platform, resources, and data dashboard
  • Engage with network partners to curate and create training materials and resources dedicated to mitigating farmer and rancher stress
  • Engage with network partners to expand current response lines dedicated to farm and ranch success
  • Collaborate with the evaluation team to ensure IRB compliance within and external to the department
  • Engage with network partners to establish in-person and/or virtual support groups for farmers and ranchers
  • Support network partners’ applied research efforts
  • Assist with logistical and administrative functions of the grant
  • Participate in evaluation and reporting requirements of the grant program
  • Participate in formative, process, outcome and/or impact evaluation and reporting for project
  • Foster and maintain partnerships with program stakeholders
  • Assume other duties as necessary or as assigned


  • Qualifications
    REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS

    Education: 

    • Earned Master’s degree in Family and Consumer Sciences, psychology, social work, child and family studies, family and consumer sciences, human development, agricultural leadership, community development or closely related.
     

    Experience: 

    • Minimum of 5 years work experience without an earned doctorate as an Extension Assistant II or related position
    • Demonstrated promise in teaching, Extension, and/or service in alignment with the appointment
    • Experience with grants management and oversight
     

     

    Job Skills:

    • Strong collaboration and communication skills (verbal and written)
    • Knowledge of mental health, rural issues, agriculture and family stress
    • Demonstrated project management skills and ability
    • Ability to organize, apply sound judgment, and complete assignments in a timely manner both independently and as part of a team
    • Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with both intradisciplinary and interdisciplinary teams
    • Ability to travel within and outside the state, as necessary
