Description:

Department of Neuroscience is seeking candidates for a postdoctoral associate opportunity in Dr. Koren's laboratory. The postdoctoral associate will provide direct research support in a neuroscience laboratory under the supervision of the principal investigator, Dr. Koren.  Work will include contribution to the design and execution of research proposals, data analysis and preparation of publications.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Recombinant protein generation & purification techniques, biophysical analyses of recombinant protein assays including atomic force and electron microscopy. Other necessary techniques include: standard molecular cloning & mammalian cell culture.
  • Assisting with research studies, experiments and assays including collection and analysis of data, preparation of solutions, and set-up and maintenance of equipment.
  • Complies with established safety procedures and maintains required documentation in the laboratory.
  • Ensuring lab conditions and equipment are properly cleaned and maintained in accordance with established procedures.

Qualifications:

Minimum

This position requires a PhD in a biochemistry or biophysics discipline. Familiarity with recombinant protein assays and molecular cloning.

Preferred

Applicants should be organized, self-motivated, and capable of working independently in a collaborative setting. The successful candidate must work well in a fast paced, deadline-driven environment and as an effective member of a multidisciplinary collaborative team and have excellent interpersonal skills with students, other lab personnel, and the public. Ability to follow established routine procedures and defined schedules, keep research records, and work in a team is critical. The candidate must possess strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to readily learn new experimental techniques. Strong analytical, communication, organizational, and computer skills are also required.

Preference will be given to candidates with experience in mouse husbandry and handling transgenic rodent models. Experience working with brain tissues and general molecular biology experience is desired but not required.
