The Department of Information Systems & Business Analytics at Eastern Washington University's College of Business invites applications to fill one tenure track faculty position to start Fall Quarter 2021. The selected candidate will be appointed as a tenure-track Assistant Professor.

Eastern is a regional, comprehensive institution where excellent teaching must be supplemented with an appropriate research program. The primary teaching area for this position will be a wide variety of business/data analytics courses in the undergraduate programs. An ongoing research program and committee service to the university, college, and department is required for tenure track appointments. Advising students, coordinating internships, and serving as faculty lead for the business analytics and data analytics programs are also required by this position.

Faculty offices may be in the Catalyst building, adjacent to downtown Spokane in the University District, or on the Cheney campus, but all faculty are expected to be available to teach at both locations. Additionally, the candidate selected for this position will be expected to teach online academic courses to a diverse college student body; experience with online teaching is preferred.

About the College of Business
The College of Business is located in the Catalyst Building in the downtown Spokane University District, and maintains an administrative presence in EWU's primary campus in Cheney, Washington. The business program is accredited by The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB-International).


Required Qualifications:
  • PhD in Data Analytics, or Decision Science, or Business Analytics, or related fields from an AACSB accredited institution.
    • ABDs will be considered, but PhD must be completed before September 1, 2021 to be appointed into this tenure track position.
  • The candidate must meet at least one of the following requirements:
    • At least 3 years of relevant professional experience in Data Analytics, or Decision Science, or Business Analytics, or related fields, OR
    • Obtained the doctorate degree recently (within the last 3 years), OR
    • Have 2 to 3 peer-reviewed journal publications in quality outlets within the last 5 years.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply a culturally responsive and flexible approach that is supportive to the diverse needs, including universal accessibility, of our students, faculty, staff, and the public.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Professional experience in a related field
  • Experience teaching in an online format
  • Experience advising students
  • Experience coordinating internships
  • Experience leading an academic program

Responsibility / Duty:
A Faculty Activity Plan will be developed by the end of the first quarter of the selected candidate’s appointment, and will consist of a combination of teaching, research, and service and/or release time to perform administrative duties, as negotiated and as needed to meet the business needs of the department.

Teaching: teaching workload for Assistant Professors typically include up to 28 credits of teaching across the academic year (mid-September through mid-June) however, teaching load might be up to 36 credits, subject to department needs and AACSB qualification status.
  • Teaching includes the following additional responsibilities as defined in the faculty CBA:
    • Meet all scheduled classes
    • Plan, organize and inform students of course content, texts, readings, assignments, attendance expectations and methods of evaluation including grading scales
    • Schedule and attend office hours
    • Turn in grades according to established deadlines
    • Additionally, all faculty are expected to engage in effective teaching and assessment of student learning

Conditions of Employment:
Multiple work locations (main office located in the Catalyst Building in Spokane’s downtown University District, and a shared office at the EWU Cheney campus)

The required start date for this position is 9/16/2021. To be considered eligible for appointment into the position, applicants must be available and able to start in the position no later than 9/16/2021.

This position, during the course of university employment will be involved in the receipt of, or accountability for, university funds or other items of value; as well as the unsupervised access with the developmentally disabled, vulnerable adults or children under the age of 16. The offer of employment is contingent upon successful completion and passing of a background check prior to beginning employment.

Note: Interviews will be conducted via Zoom (camera must be enabled). While we anticipate being open for in-person instruction for academic year 2021-22, should Washington State or university pandemic restrictions disallow for in-person instruction, then courses will be taught via online platforms, including Zoom and other technologies. Candidates must be able to demonstrate competence using these technologies.

Salary Information: The expected hiring salary is $118,149; the exact salary will be depended on experience and other qualifications.
