Job Description Summary
Reporting to Wharton's Director of Social Media, the Social Media Specialist is responsible for the daily development and distribution of social media content across the School's social media channels. Monitor, analyze and report on social media performance across the school.

Job Description

The Social Media Specialist is responsible for the daily development and distribution of social media content across the School's social media channels, including, but not limited to, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, YouTube, and Snapchat. This role helps instill social media best practices across Wharton in coordination with partners School-wide - including academic programs, publications, research centers and initiatives, and faculty - assisting them with leveraging social media to achieve key business, marketing and communications objectives. In those functions, the Social Media Specialist plans and produces real-time coverage of events such as Graduation, Convocation, conferences and lectures, working closely with the Events, Content & Creative and Media Relations teams.

The Social Media Specialist also monitors, analyzes and reports on social media performance related to both organic and paid efforts, leads social media listening and community management efforts, and researches social media trends to ensure Wharton's channels remain at the leading edge. The person in this position identifies, hires and supervises one or two student workers to support the above responsibilities.

Essential Qualifications:

- Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience

- 3 to 5 years of experience in content-producing role for a brand or in a news media, social media, public relations or communications organization

- 3 years of full-time professional social media experience developing and producing (writing, photographing, and/or filming) content on social media platforms

- Excellent written skills and proven ability to represent a brand on social media

- Expertise in a wide range of social media platforms, including Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, YouTube, Snapchat and GIPHY, as well as with social media analytics tools

- Strong news judgement and ability to originate social media content ideas and tailor them to each platform

- Experience covering events in real-time, including live tweeting and creating Instagram stories.

- Ability to work under tight deadlines

- Strong interpersonal skills; ability to work collaboratively

- Proactive, self-starter who can work both independently and as part of a team

Preferred Qualifications:

- Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, Media or similar field

- Expertise in social media content creation, including graphic design, photography and/or video editing

- Experience with paid social media advertising, including knowledge of LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter ads manager platforms as well as Google Analytics

- Experience in higher education/MBA industry, other non-profit environments, and/or in a client-focused role a plus
